1
A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.
*A fake scale that's not fair is hated by God, but a fair scale He likes.
2
When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
*When pride appears, shame follows: but wisdom is found with those who are humble.
3
The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.
*The honesty of good people will help them; but the twistedness of those who break rules will harm them.
4
Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.
*Wealth doesn't help during angry times, but being good saves us from dying.
5
The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.
*The goodness of the totally good person guides him: but the bad person will be destroyed by their own bad actions.
6
The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.
*Good people will be saved, but those who break rules will be caught by their wrongdoing.
7
When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth.
*When a bad person dies, their hopes disappear, and the hopes of unfair people vanish too.
8
The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.
*The good person is saved from danger, while the bad person takes their place.
9
An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.
*A hypocrite hurts others by talking badly about them, but understanding things will save the good people.
10
When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.
*When things are good for good people, the city is happy, and when bad people suffer, there's celebration.
11
By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
*The city thrives with good people's blessings, but falls due to bad people's actions.
12
He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.
*A person without wisdom dislikes their neighbor, but someone who is smart stays quiet.
13
A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.
*A gossip shares secrets: but someone with loyalty keeps things hidden.
14
Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
*Without advice, people fail, but with many advisors, there is safety.
15
He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hateth suretiship is sure.
*If you guarantee help for someone you don't know, you'll suffer the consequences. And if you hate being responsible for others, you're still responsible.
16
A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.
*A kind woman keeps respect: and powerful people keep wealth.
17
The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.
*A kind person does good for themselves, but a cruel person causes trouble for themselves.
18
The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.
*The bad person does sneaky things, but the one who plants goodness will get a guaranteed reward.
19
As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.
*Just like doing good leads to living: the person who chases after bad things is actually chasing death for themselves.
20
They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.
*People with crooked hearts displease God, but those who are honest and good please him greatly.
21
Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.
*Even when bad people team up, they won't escape punishment. But the children of good people will be saved.
22
As a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.
*Like a gold jewel in a pig's mouth, is a beautiful woman without wisdom.
23
The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
*The wish of good people is always positive: but the hope of bad people leads to anger.
24
There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.
*There is one who scatters and increases even more; and there is one who holds back too much, leading to poverty.
25
The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
*The generous spirit will be richly blessed, and the one who gives water will also receive water for themselves.
26
He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.
*If someone keeps grain from the people, they will curse him. But the person who sells it will receive a blessing.
27
He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him.
*Seeking goodness brings favor, but seeking trouble will find it.
28
He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.
*Trusting in wealth will cause you to fail, but those who are righteous will thrive like a healthy branch.
29
He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.
*If you cause problems at home, you'll get nothing but wind; meanwhile, the smart person will be in charge of the foolish one.
30
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
*The good person's reward is like a tree of life; and the one who helps people find faith is smart.
31
Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.
*Look, the righteous will be rewarded on Earth; even more so, the wicked and those who do wrong will be punished.
