Chapter 12

1
Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
*Whoever loves learning also loves knowledge, but whoever hates being corrected is like an unintelligent animal.

A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.
*A good person gets God's approval, but a person with bad intentions, God disapproves.

A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.
*A person shouldn't rely on wrongdoing; instead, the foundation of good people will stay strong.
4
A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.
*A good wife is a source of pride for her husband, but a shameful one causes harm like decay in his body.

The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.
*Righteous people think correctly, but wicked people plan to deceive.

The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.
*The bad people's words want to trap and hurt others, but the honest person's mouth will protect them.

The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.
*The bad people lose and don't last, but the home of good people stays strong.

A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.
*A person will be praised for their smartness, but someone with a twisted mind will be disliked.

He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.
*The one who is disrespected but has a servant is better off than the one who praises themselves but doesn't have enough food.

A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
*A good person cares about their animal's life, but a bad person's kindness is actually mean.

He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.
*Whoever works their land will have enough food. But those who hang out with foolish people don't understand things well.

The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.
*The bad person wants to use the trap of bad people: but the foundation of good people produces good things.

The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.
*The bad person gets caught because of their wrong words, but the good person will get out of difficulties.

A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.
*A person will be happy with the results of their actions, and they will receive what they deserve for their efforts.

The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
*A foolish person thinks they're right, but listening to advice makes someone smart.

A fool’s wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.
*A foolish person's anger becomes clear right away, but a wise person hides embarrassment.

He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.
*Speaking the truth reveals what is right; but lying, with a false witness, brings deception.

There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.
*Some people speak harshly, like a sword's piercing. But a wise person's tongue promotes well-being.

The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
*The truth will always be spoken through honest words, but lies only last briefly.

Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.
*Deceit is found in people who think up bad things. But those who give advice for peace find happiness.

There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.
*Good things will not happen to those who do righteous deeds, but bad things will happen to those who do wrong.

Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.
*Lies are hated by God, but honest people bring him joy.

A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.
*A smart person keeps their wisdom hidden, but foolish people show off their silliness.

The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.
*Hard work will lead to success, but laziness will result in dependence on others.

Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.
*Heavy feelings in a person's heart make them feel down, but kind words make them happy.

The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.
*The good person is better than their neighbor, but the path of the bad person leads them astray.

The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.
*The lazy person doesn't properly cook the game they caught. But the hardworking person's possessions are valuable.
28
In the way of righteousness is life: and in the pathway thereof there is no death.
*Walking the path of goodness leads to life, and on that path, you won't find any harm or death.
