←Back to VersesAnd the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac’s herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.
The shepherds of Gerar argued with Isaac's shepherds over the water, saying it belonged to them. So, Isaac named the well "Esek" because they fought with him.
