1 Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.

*This is about Noah's children - Shem, Ham, and Japheth. After the flood, they had more children.

2 The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.

*The children of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.

3 And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.

*And the children of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.

4 And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.

*And Javan's children were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.

5 By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

*By this, the lands of non-Jews were separated based on language and families, living within their own countries and nations.

6 And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan.

*And the children of Ham: Cush, Egypt (Mizraim), Philistia (Phut), and Canaan.

7 And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtechah: and the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan.

*The descendants of Cush include Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabtechah. Among the descendants of Raamah are Sheba and Dedan.

8 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.

*Cush had a son named Nimrod, who became a powerful and influential person on Earth.

9 He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD.

*He was an excellent hunter for God; therefore, he is compared to Nimrod, the powerful hunter for God.

10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

*His rule started in Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, which are all in the land called Shinar.

11 Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah,

*From that region, Assyria emerged and constructed the cities of Nineveh, Rehoboth, and Calah.

12 And Resen between Nineveh and Calah: the same is a great city.

*And Resen is a large city located between Nineveh and Calah.

13 And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim,

*Mizraim had children named Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, and Naphtuhim.

14 And Pathrusim, and Casluhim, (out of whom came Philistim,) and Caphtorim.

*And Pathrusim and Casluhim (who had Philistim descendants), and Caphtorim.

15 And Canaan begat Sidon his first born, and Heth,

*And Canaan had a son named Sidon, who was his first child, and he also had another child named Heth.

16 And the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgasite,

*And the Jerusalemite, and the Amorite, and the Gezerite.

17 And the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite,

*And the Hivite, the Arkite, and the Sinite.

18 And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad.

*The Arvadite, Zemarite, and Hamathite followed. Later, the Canaanite families spread out widely.

19 And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest, unto Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboim, even unto Lasha.

*The border of the Canaanites went from Sidon to Gerar, and then to Gaza. It also included the areas of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboim, and Lasha.

20 These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations.

*Here are Ham's descendants, grouped by their families, languages, where they live, and their communities.

21 Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder, even to him were children born.

*To Shem, who was the older brother of Japheth and the ancestor of all the people called Eber's children, many children were born.

22 The children of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.

*The kids of Shem: Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.

23 And the children of Aram; Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.

*The children from Aram were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.

24 And Arphaxad begat Salah; and Salah begat Eber.

*Arphaxad had a son named Salah, and Salah had a son named Eber.

25 And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.

*Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg because during his time, the Earth was split apart. His other son was called Joktan.

26 And Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah,

*Joktan had children: Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, and Jerah.

27 And Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah,

*And Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah.

28 And Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba,

*And Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba.

29 And Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab: all these were the sons of Joktan.

*Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab - they were all children of Joktan.

30 And their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou goest unto Sephar a mount of the east.

*Their home was in Mesha, when going towards Sephar, a mountain in the east.

31 These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations.

*Here are Shem's children, grouped by their families, how they talk, in their countries, and their different groups of people.

32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.

*This is a list of Noah's children's families, how they grew over time, and how their groups of people split up on Earth after the big flood.
