Chapter 8

1 And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged;

*God thought of Noah and all the living creatures with him in the ark. Then, God sent a wind that lessened the flood on Earth. The water decreased.

2 The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;

*The deep ocean fountains and heaven's windows stopped flowing, and rain from the sky was held back.

3 And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.

*The water went away from the land all the time, and after 150 days, the water level went down.

4 And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.

*The ark stopped at Mount Ararat on the 17th day of the seventh month.

5 And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.

*The water kept going down little by little until the tenth month. In the tenth month, on the very first day, we could finally see the top of the mountains again.

6 And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:

*After forty days, Noah opened the ark's window at the end.

7 And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.

*He let out a crow that flew around until all the water was gone from the land.

8 Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground;

*He also released a dove to check if the water had gone down on the land's surface.

9 But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.

*But the dove couldn't find a place to rest its feet. It went back to Noah in the boat because there was water everywhere. So, Noah reached out, grabbed it, and brought it inside the boat.

10 And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark;

*He remained for an additional week, then released the dove from the ark once more;

11 And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.

*The dove returned to Noah in the evening with an olive leaf in its mouth. This meant that the floodwaters had gone down on the Earth.

12 And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more.

*He remained for an additional seven days, then released the dove. It didn't come back again.

13 And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.

*In the 601st year, on the first month's first day, all the water on Earth disappeared. Noah uncovered the ark and saw that the ground was dry.

14 And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.

*In the second month, on the 21st day, the ground became dry.

15 And God spake unto Noah, saying,

*And God told Noah, "

16 Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee.

*Leave the ark, you and your wife, your sons, and their wives, all together with you.

17 Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.

*Bring all living creatures you have, including animals, birds, and small creatures that move on the ground. Let them multiply and thrive on the Earth.

18 And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him:

*Noah, along with his family - his wife and his sons and their wives, left together.

19 Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark.

*All animals, insects, birds, and creatures that crawled on the ground came out of the ark in groups based on their types.

20 And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

*Noah built an altar for God and offered sacrifices from all clean animals and birds as burnt offerings.

21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

*And the Lord enjoyed a good scent and thought to himself, "I won't curse the earth anymore because of people; humans have wicked thoughts from a young age. I also won't destroy all living things like before."

22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

*As long as the Earth exists, there will be planting and harvest times, warm and cool temperatures, and summer and winter seasons, with day and night happening continuously.
