Luke 19

And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.

Jesus went into Jericho and moved on through it.

And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.

And, look, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was the top tax collector and very wealthy.

And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.

He tried to see Jesus and find out who He was but couldn't because there were too many people, as he was quite short in height.

And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.

He went ahead and climbed a fig tree to look for him, because Jesus was going to pass that way.

And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

When Jesus reached the spot, he noticed Zacchaeus and said, "Zacchaeus, hurry and come down because I need to visit your home today."

And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.

He quickly went down and happily welcomed him back.

And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

When they saw this, everyone complained, saying, "He has gone to be a guest at a man's house who is a sinner."

And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

Zacchaeus then told Jesus, "Look, Lord! I will give half of my things to the poor. And if I wrongly took anything from someone with a lie, I will give them back four times what I took."

And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

Jesus told the man, "Today, salvation has arrived at this home because the person living here is a descendant of Abraham."

For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

The Son of Man has arrived to find and save what was lost.

And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.

As they listened, Jesus told a story since he was close to Jerusalem and they believed the kingdom of God would show up right away.

He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

He said, "A man of high position went to another land to get his own kingdom and then come back."

And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

He summoned his ten helpers and gave each of them ten dollars, saying, "Use these until I return."

But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

But the people didn't like him and said, We don't want this man to be our leader.

And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.

After he got back and got the kingdom, he called the servants he gave money to for trading and wanted to see how much each person made.

Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.

Then, the first person said, "Lord, the money you gave me grew to be worth ten more pounds."

And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.

He said to him, "Good job, faithful servant! Since you were responsible with a little, now you can manage ten cities."

And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.

And the second one arrived, saying, Lord, my coin has increased to five coins.

And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.

He said the same to him, "You too will be in charge of five cities."

And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:

And someone else arrived, saying, Lord, look, here's your coin, which I kept safe in a cloth.

For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.

Because I was afraid of you, since you are strict; you take things you didn't put there, and you harvest what you didn't plant.

And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:

He says to him, "I'll judge you based on your own words, wicked servant. You knew I was strict, keeping things I didn't put down and collecting what I didn't plant."

Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?

Why didn't you put my money in the bank, so when I arrived, I could get back my money plus extra interest?

And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.

He told those nearby, "Take the pound from him and give it to the person with ten pounds."

(And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)

They said to him, "Lord, he has ten pounds."

For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.

I tell you this: those who have will be given more, but those who don't have will lose what they have.

But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

But my enemies, who didn't want me to rule over them, bring them here, and kill them in front of me.

And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.

Then he finished talking, so he moved forward, going up to Jerusalem.

And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,

Then, when Jesus approached the towns of Bethphage and Bethany near the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his followers.

Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.

"Go to the nearby town and find a colt that no one has ridden, untie it, and bring it here."

And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.

If someone asks why you let him go, tell them it's because the Lord needs him.

And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.

The ones sent out went and found exactly what he told them would be there.

And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?

And as they were untying the young donkey, its owners asked them, "Why are you untying the young donkey?"

And they said, The Lord hath need of him.

And they said, God needs him.

And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.

They took him to Jesus. They put their clothes on the donkey and placed Jesus on it.

And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.

As he walked, people put their clothes on the road.

And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

When Jesus approached, near the foot of Mount Olives, all of his followers started to joyfully praise God out loud for the amazing things they had witnessed.

Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

"Praising, blessed is the King who comes in God's name: peace in heaven, and honor at its highest."

And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.

Some Pharisees in the crowd told Jesus, "Teacher, tell your followers to stop."

And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

He replied, "If they stay quiet, even stones would quickly shout out."

And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,

When he got close, he saw the city and cried for it.

Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

If you had understood, today at least, what leads to your peace, but now, it's hidden from you.

For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,

The day will come when your enemies surround you completely, blocking all sides and trapping you.

And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

They will destroy you and your children, leaving no stones on top of each other in your city. This will happen because you did not know when God was helping you.

And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought;

He entered the temple and started kicking out those selling things and those buying things.

Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.

He said, "It's written that my place is for praying, but you changed it into a hiding spot for thieves."

And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him,

He taught at the temple every day. However, the top priests, writers, and people's leader wanted to kill him.

And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.

They couldn't figure out what to do because everyone was really focused on listening to him.
