Luke 24

Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

On the first day of the week, early in the morning, they went to the tomb. They brought spices they had prepared and some others with them.

And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.

They discovered the stone was no longer covering the tomb.

And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

They went inside and couldn't find Jesus' body.

And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:

Then, when they were very confused, two men in bright clothes appeared beside them.

And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?

"While they were scared and bent over, looking at the ground, they asked, 'Why are you searching for the living with the dead?'"

He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,

He's not here; he has risen! Remember what he told you when he was still in Galilee.

Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

He said, "The human child will be given to wicked people and killed on a cross, but then he will come back to life after three days."

And they remembered his words,

And they recalled what he said.

And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.

And they went back from the tomb, and shared everything that happened with the eleven and everyone else.

It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.

Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary James' mom, and other women shared these events with the apostles.

And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.

They thought the words were just nonsense stories and didn't believe them.

Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.

Then Peter stood up and rushed to the tomb. He looked inside and saw the cloths neatly folded without anyone touching them. He was amazed and left, wondering about what had happened.

And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.

That day, two people went to a village named Emmaus, which was around 60 miles from Jerusalem.

And they talked together of all these things which had happened.

They discussed everything that had occurred.

And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.

Then, as they talked and thought, Jesus approached and joined them.

But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.

But they couldn't see who he was.

And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?

He asked them, "What kind of conversations do you have while walking and looking sad?"

And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?

Cleopas asked him, "Are you just a visitor in Jerusalem and don't know what has happened here lately?"

And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:

He asked them, "What about?" They replied, "About Jesus from Nazareth. He was a powerful prophet in both actions and words, chosen by God and recognized by everyone."

And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.

The main priests and leaders gave him to be sentenced to die and they crucified him.

But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.

But we believed it was him who would save Israel. Also, today is the third day since these events happened.

Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;

Yes, some women in our group amazed us because they went to the tomb early.

And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.

When they couldn't find his body, they told everyone that they saw a vision with angels who said he was still alive.

And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.

Some of them who were with us went to the tomb and found it just like the women said: but they didn't see him.

Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:

Then he said to them, "You foolish people, and slow to understand everything the prophets talked about."

Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

Shouldn't Jesus have gone through these experiences and then enter into his glory?

And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Starting with Moses and the prophets, he explained to them using all the writings how everything was about him.

And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.

They approached the village they were heading to, and he pretended to want to go even farther.

But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.

But they insisted, asking him to stay: it's getting late, and the day is almost over. So he agreed and stayed with them.

And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.

As he ate with them, he took bread, said a blessing, broke it, and gave it to them.

And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.

Then they saw him clearly, understood who he was, and he disappeared from their view.

And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

They said to each other, "Didn't our hearts feel excited inside while he was talking to us on the road and explaining the meaning of the writings?"

And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,

They got up at the same time and went back to Jerusalem. They found the eleven and others together there.

Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.

"He is truly alive, and he showed himself to Peter."

And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.

They shared about the things that happened on their journey, and how he was recognized by them when they broke bread together.

And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

While they were talking, Jesus appeared among them and said, "Peace be with you."

But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.

But they were scared and shocked, thinking they saw a ghost.

And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?

He asked them, "Why are you worried? And why do you have doubts in your minds?"

Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

Look at my hands and feet. It's really me. Touch me and see. A spirit doesn't have flesh and bones like I do.

And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.

Then, after saying that, he showed them his hands and feet.

And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?

While they still didn't fully believe out of happiness and were amazed, he asked them, "Do you have any food here?"

And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.

They gave him a cooked fish piece and some honeycomb.

And he took it, and did eat before them.

He grabbed it and ate it in front of them.

And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

He told them, "These are the words I said when I was with you: everything in Moses' law, the prophecies, and the psalms about me must happen."

Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

Then, he explained to them so they could easily understand the writings.

And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

He told them, "This is written down, and it was necessary for Christ to endure suffering and to rise again on the third day."

And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

So, Jesus wanted people to say sorry for their mistakes and forgive their wrongdoings in his name, starting in Jerusalem and telling everyone around the world.

And ye are witnesses of these things.

You are witnesses to these events.

And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

And look, I'm sending my Father's promise to you. But stay in Jerusalem until you receive power from above.

And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

He took them to Bethany and raised his hands, giving them a blessing.

And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.

Then, as he blessed them, he separated from them and was taken up to heaven.

And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:

They praised him and went back to Jerusalem feeling very happy.

And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.

They always stayed in the temple, happily thanking God. Yes, that's right.
