Luke 17

Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!

Then he told his followers, Offenses will definitely happen, but it's terrible for the person who causes them.

It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.

It's better for someone to have a heavy stone tied around their neck and thrown into the sea than to harm one of these small people.

Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.

Be careful: If someone does something wrong to you, tell them; and if they say sorry, forgive them.

And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

If someone hurts you seven times in one day, but then apologizes and says they're sorry each time, you should forgive them.

And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.

And the apostles asked the Lord, "Please make our faith bigger."

And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.

And God said, If you had tiny mustard seed faith, you could tell this sycamore tree to be removed and planted in the sea, and it would listen.

But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat?

But who among you, when you have a worker plowing or taking care of cows, would tell them later, after they return from work, to sit down for a meal?

And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?

Why not just ask him to prepare a meal, tie an apron around his waist, and serve you food and drinks until you're full? Then he can eat too.

Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not.

Does he thank the servant for doing what was ordered? I don't think so.

So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

So, just like that, when you've done everything you're told, say, "We are just doing our job; we've done what we were supposed to."

And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.

As he traveled to Jerusalem, he went right through Samaria and Galilee.

And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:

As he arrived at a particular town, ten people with skin problems approached him from a distance.

And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.

They shouted, "Jesus, our Leader, please save us!"

And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.

When he saw them, he told them to go show themselves to the priests. As they went, they were cleansed.

And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,

And as he got better, he praised God loudly and went back.

And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.

He bowed down, thanking him with his face on the ground; he was from Samaria.

And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?

And Jesus replied, "Weren't ten made clean? So, where are the nine?"

There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.

No one else came back to praise God, except for this unknown person.

And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

He told him, "Get up and go; your belief has made you well."

And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:

When the Pharisees asked Jesus about when the kingdom of God would arrive, he replied that it doesn't come through visible signs.

Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

They won't say "look here!" or "look there!" because the kingdom of God is inside you.

And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it.

He told his followers, "There will be a time when you'll want to see the Son of Man's day, but you won't get to see it."

And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them.

They will tell you, "Look here" or "look there." Do not go after them or follow them.

For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.

Just like lightning that flashes across one part of the sky and is seen in another part, the Son of Man will be just as noticeable when he returns.

But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.

But first, he has to face many difficulties and be rejected by this generation.

And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.

Just like in Noah's time, it will be the same in the days of the Son of Man.

They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

They ate, drank, and got married. People gave their daughters in marriage too. This went on until the day Noah went into the ark. Then a big flood happened and wiped them all out.

Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;

Similarly, just like in Lot's time, they ate, drank, bought and sold things, planted, and built.

But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

On the day Lot left Sodom, fire and burning stones fell from the sky, destroying everyone there.

Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

In that day, when the Son of man becomes clear, it will happen just like this.

In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.

On that day, if you're on the rooftop with your belongings inside, don't go down to get them; and if you're in the field, don't come back either.

Remember Lot’s wife.

Remember when Lot's wife looked back.

Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.

Whoever tries to save their life will lose it; but whoever loses their life will keep it.

I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.

In that night, two people will be in one bed. One person will be taken away, while the other remains.

Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

Two ladies will be grinding grain together; one will be taken away, while the other is left behind.

Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

In a field, two people are; one is taken away, and the other stays.

And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.

They asked, "Lord, where?" He replied, "Where the body is, that's where the eagles will gather."
