Describes how Moses leads the Israelites out of Egypt and slavery, and how they receive laws from God.

Chapter 38

1 And he made the altar of burnt offering of shittim wood: five cubits was the length thereof, and five cubits the breadth thereof; it was foursquare; and three cubits the height thereof.

*He built an altar for burning offerings from wooden blocks called shittim wood. It was 5 feet long, 5 feet wide, and 3 feet tall, making it a perfect square shape.

2 And he made the horns thereof on the four corners of it; the horns thereof were of the same: and he overlaid it with brass.

*He created horn-like structures at each corner and they were all the same. He then covered it entirely with bronze.

3 And he made all the vessels of the altar, the pots, and the shovels, and the basons, and the fleshhooks, and the firepans: all the vessels thereof made he of brass.

*He created all the altar's tools, like pots, shovels, bowls, meat hooks, and firepans. He made them all from bronze.

4 And he made for the altar a brasen grate of network under the compass thereof beneath unto the midst of it.

*He created a bronze grid for the altar, which hung below its edge in the middle.

5 And he cast four rings for the four ends of the grate of brass, to be places for the staves.

*He made four rings for the corners of the brass grate to attach the support bars.

6 And he made the staves of shittim wood, and overlaid them with brass.

*He created the poles from a type of wood called shittim, and covered them with a shiny metal called brass.

7 And he put the staves into the rings on the sides of the altar, to bear it withal; he made the altar hollow with boards.

*He placed the poles into the holes on the sides of the altar to carry it easily; he made the altar lightweight using wooden panels.

8 And he made the laver of brass, and the foot of it of brass, of the lookingglasses of the women assembling, which assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

*He created a brass basin and its base was also brass, using bronze mirrors from women gathering. These women gathered near the entrance of the meeting place for the people.

9 And he made the court: on the south side southward the hangings of the court were of fine twined linen, an hundred cubits:

*He created the courtyard: on the southern side, the curtains of the courtyard were made of fine woven linen, measuring one hundred cubits in length.

10 Their pillars were twenty, and their brasen sockets twenty; the hooks of the pillars and their fillets were of silver.

*They had 20 pillars with bronze bases, and the hooks and decorations on them were made of silver.

11 And for the north side the hangings were an hundred cubits, their pillars were twenty, and their sockets of brass twenty; the hooks of the pillars and their fillets of silver.

*On the north side, the curtains were 100 cubits long. There were 20 pillars with 20 brass sockets. The pillar hooks and their silver decorations were also silver.

12 And for the west side were hangings of fifty cubits, their pillars ten, and their sockets ten; the hooks of the pillars and their fillets of silver.

*On the west side, there were curtains that were 50 units long. They had 10 columns and 10 bases. The hooks on the columns and the silver trim around them were made of silver.

13 And for the east side eastward fifty cubits.

*On the eastern side, go fifty steps forward.

14 The hangings of the one side of the gate were fifteen cubits; their pillars three, and their sockets three.

*The curtains on one side of the gate were 15 units long; there were 3 posts and 3 base supports.

15 And for the other side of the court gate, on this hand and that hand, were hangings of fifteen cubits; their pillars three, and their sockets three.

*On the opposite side of the court gate, on both sides, there were curtains that were fifteen cubits long. There were three pillars and three sockets on each side.

16 All the hangings of the court round about were of fine twined linen.

*All the decorations around the court were made of high-quality woven fabric.

17 And the sockets for the pillars were of brass; the hooks of the pillars and their fillets of silver; and the overlaying of their chapiters of silver; and all the pillars of the court were filleted with silver.

*The places where the pillars fit had brass. The hooks and decorations on top of the pillars were made of silver, as well as the extra silver layer covering them. All the pillars around the area were also decorated with silver.

18 And the hanging for the gate of the court was needlework, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen: and twenty cubits was the length, and the height in the breadth was five cubits, answerable to the hangings of the court.

*The gate's curtain was made with blue, purple, scarlet thread, and fine linen. It was 20 cubits long and 5 cubits high, similar to other court hangings.

19 And their pillars were four, and their sockets of brass four; their hooks of silver, and the overlaying of their chapiters and their fillets of silver.

*Their support columns were four, and their base plates made of bronze were also four. Their hooks were made of silver, and the top parts of their columns and their borders were covered with silver as well.

20 And all the pins of the tabernacle, and of the court round about, were of brass.

*All the pins of the tent and the surrounding area were made of bronze.

21 This is the sum of the tabernacle, even of the tabernacle of testimony, as it was counted, according to the commandment of Moses, for the service of the Levites, by the hand of Ithamar, son to Aaron the priest.

*This verse explains the total parts of the special shelter (also called the "witness tabernacle"), based on how many were counted following Moses' instructions. It was created to help the tribe of Levi, under the guidance of Ithamar, who was Aaron the priest's son, in their tasks.

22 And Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made all that the LORD commanded Moses.

*Bezaleel, from the Judah tribe, son of Uri and Hur, followed God's instructions given to Moses and created everything.

23 And with him was Aholiab, son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, an engraver, and a cunning workman, and an embroiderer in blue, and in purple, and in scarlet, and fine linen.

*With him was Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, from the Dan tribe. He was skilled in engraving, crafty in making things, and good at embroidering with blue, purple, scarlet, and fine linen.

24 All the gold that was occupied for the work in all the work of the holy place, even the gold of the offering, was twenty and nine talents, and seven hundred and thirty shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary.

*All the gold used for everything in the holy place, from the donated gold, was 29 talents and 730 shekels, based on the sanctuary's shekel.

25 And the silver of them that were numbered of the congregation was an hundred talents, and a thousand seven hundred and threescore and fifteen shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary:

*The total silver from those counted in the group was 100 talents and 1,735 shekels, based on the sanctuary's shekel.

26 A bekah for every man, that is, half a shekel, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for every one that went to be numbered, from twenty years old and upward, for six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty men.

*Every man paid half a shekel, which is about 2.5 ounces of silver, based on the sanctuary's weight, from ages 20 to up, totaling around 6 million and 355,500 men.

27 And of the hundred talents of silver were cast the sockets of the sanctuary, and the sockets of the vail; an hundred sockets of the hundred talents, a talent for a socket.

*The hundred talents of silver were used to make the supports of the sanctuary and the veil's supports. There were 100 supports made from these 100 talents, with each support costing one talent.

28 And of the thousand seven hundred seventy and five shekels he made hooks for the pillars, and overlaid their chapiters, and filleted them.

*He used 1,775 shekels to make hooks for the pillars, covered their tops, and added decorative edges.

29 And the brass of the offering was seventy talents, and two thousand and four hundred shekels.

*The bronze from the donation was equal to 70 large amounts of weight, and also 2,040 smaller weights.

30 And therewith he made the sockets to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the brasen altar, and the brasen grate for it, and all the vessels of the altar,

*He created the supports for the tabernacle's door, the bronze altar, the bronze grate for it, and all the altar's tools.

31 And the sockets of the court round about, and the sockets of the court gate, and all the pins of the tabernacle, and all the pins of the court round about.

*And the supports around the courtyard, along with the gate's supports, and all the tent pins for the tabernacle, and all the tent pins for the courtyard too.
