Chapter 3

1 Now these were the sons of David, which were born unto him in Hebron; the firstborn Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess; the second Daniel, of Abigail the Carmelitess:

*Now, David's children born in Hebron included: First was Amnon, from his wife Ahinoam; and second was Daniel, from his wife Abigail.

2 The third, Absalom the son of Maachah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur: the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith:

*The third was Absalom, son of Maachah, who was the daughter of Talmai, king of Geshur. The fourth was Adonijah, son of Haggith.

3 The fifth, Shephatiah of Abital: the sixth, Ithream by Eglah his wife.

*The fifth was Shephatiah, whose wife was Abital; the sixth was Ithream, who was married to Eglah.

4 These six were born unto him in Hebron; and there he reigned seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years.

*He had six children in Hebron, where he ruled for 7 years and 6 months. Then, in Jerusalem, he ruled for 30 more years.

5 And these were born unto him in Jerusalem; Shimea, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon, four, of Bathshua the daughter of Ammiel:

*In Jerusalem, he had four children with Bathshua, daughter of Ammiel: Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon.

6 Ibhar also, and Elishama, and Eliphelet,

*Forward were Ibhar, Elishama, and Eliphelet.

7 And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

*And Nogah, Nepheg, and Japhia.

8 And Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphelet, nine.

*Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet were nine in total.

9 These were all the sons of David, beside the sons of the concubines, and Tamar their sister.

*These were all of David's sons, except those from his other wives, and Tamar, who was also their sister.

10 And Solomon’s son was Rehoboam, Abia his son, Asa his son, Jehoshaphat his son,

*Rehoboam was Solomon's son, Abia was Rehoboam's son, Asa was Abia's son, and Jehoshaphat was Asa's son.

11 Joram his son, Ahaziah his son, Joash his son,

*Joram was the father of Ahaziah, and Ahaziah was the father of Joash.

12 Amaziah his son, Azariah his son, Jotham his son,

*Amaziah had a son named Azariah, and Azariah had a son named Jotham.

13 Ahaz his son, Hezekiah his son, Manasseh his son,

*Ahaz's son was Hezekiah, and Hezekiah's son was Manasseh.

14 Amon his son, Josiah his son.

*Amon's child was Josiah, and Josiah became his successor.

15 And the sons of Josiah were, the firstborn Johanan, the second Jehoiakim, the third Zedekiah, the fourth Shallum.

*Josiah's children were named Johanan, then Jehoiakim, followed by Zedekiah, and lastly Shallum.

16 And the sons of Jehoiakim: Jeconiah his son, Zedekiah his son.

*And Jehoiakim's children: Jeconiah, who was his son, and Zedekiah, who was another son.

17 And the sons of Jeconiah; Assir, Salathiel his son,

*And Jeconiah's children: Assir, with his son Salathiel.

18 Malchiram also, and Pedaiah, and Shenazar, Jecamiah, Hoshama, and Nedabiah.

*Malchiram, Pedaiah, Shenazar, Jecamiah, Hoshama, and Nedabiah are also mentioned.

19 And the sons of Pedaiah were, Zerubbabel, and Shimei: and the sons of Zerubbabel; Meshullam, and Hananiah, and Shelomith their sister:

*The children of Pedaiah included Zerubbabel and Shimei. Zerubbabel's children were Meshullam, Hananiah, and Shelomith, who was also their sister.

20 And Hashubah, and Ohel, and Berechiah, and Hasadiah, Jushabhesed, five.

*Hashubah, Ohel, Berechiah, Hasadiah, and Jushabhesed make up the group of five.

21 And the sons of Hananiah; Pelatiah, and Jesaiah: the sons of Rephaiah, the sons of Arnan, the sons of Obadiah, the sons of Shechaniah.

*And the children of Hananiah are Pelatiah and Jesaiah. The children of Rephaiah are the children of Arnan. The children of Obadiah are the children of Shechaniah.

22 And the sons of Shechaniah; Shemaiah: and the sons of Shemaiah; Hattush, and Igeal, and Bariah, and Neariah, and Shaphat, six.

*The children of Shecaniah are Shemaiah. The children of Shemaiah are Hattush, Igeal, Bariah, Neariah, and Shaphat, who make six in total.

23 And the sons of Neariah; Elioenai, and Hezekiah, and Azrikam, three.

*And Neariah's children: Elioenai, Hezekiah, and Azrikam - there were three of them.

24 And the sons of Elioenai were, Hodaiah, and Eliashib, and Pelaiah, and Akkub, and Johanan, and Dalaiah, and Anani, seven.

*The children of Elioenai were Hodaiah, Eliashib, Pelaiah, Akkub, Johanan, Dalaiah, and Anani, a total of seven.
