Chapter 11

KJV: Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

Geneva: Then all Israel gathered themselues to Dauid vnto Hebron, saying, Beholde, we are thy bones and thy flesh.

KJV: And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel.

Geneva: And in time past, euen when Saul was King, thou leddest Israel out & in: and the Lord thy God sayde vnto thee, Thou shalt feede my people Israel, and thou shalt be captaine ouer my people Israel.

KJV: Therefore came all the elders of Israel to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the LORD; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the LORD by Samuel.

Geneva: So came all the Elders of Israel to the King to Hebron, & Dauid made a couenant with them in Hebron before the Lord; they anoynted Dauid King ouer Israel, according to the word of the Lord by the hand of Samuel.

KJV: And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus; where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land.

Geneva: And Dauid and all Israel went to Ierusalem, which is Iebus, where were the Iebusites, the inhabitants of the land.

KJV: And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come hither. Nevertheless David took the castle of Zion, which is the city of David.

Geneva: And the inhabitants of Iebus said to Dauid, Thou shalt not come in hither. Neuertheles Dauid tooke the towre of Zion, which is the city of Dauid.

KJV: And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.

Geneva: And Dauid sayd, Whosoeuer smiteth the Iebusites first, shalbe the chiefe and captaine. So Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah went first vp, and was captaine.

KJV: And David dwelt in the castle; therefore they called it the city of David.

Geneva: And Dauid dwelt in the tower: therefore they called it the citie of Dauid.

KJV: And he built the city round about, even from Millo round about: and Joab repaired the rest of the city.

Geneva: And he built the citie on euery side, from Millo euen round about, and Ioab repaired the rest of the citie.

KJV: So David waxed greater and greater: for the LORD of hosts was with him.

Geneva: And Dauid prospered, and grewe: for the Lord of hostes was with him.

KJV: These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel.

Geneva: These also are the chiefe of the valiant men that were with Dauid, & ioyned their force with him in his kingdome with al Israel, to make him King ouer Israel, according to the worde of the Lorde.

KJV: And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had; Jashobeam, an Hachmonite, the chief of the captains: he lifted up his spear against three hundred slain by him at one time.

Geneva: And this is the nomber of the valiant men whome Dauid had, Iashobeam the sonne of Hachmoni, the chiefe among thirtie: he lift vp his speare against three hundreth, whom he slewe at one time.

KJV: And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighties.

Geneva: And after him was Eleazar the sonne of Dodo the Ahohite, which was one of the three valiant men.

KJV: He was with David at Pasdammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where was a parcel of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines.

Geneva: He was with Dauid at Pas-dammim, and there the Philistims were gathered together to battel: and there was a parcell of ground full of barley, & the people fled before the Philistims.

KJV: And they set themselves in the midst of that parcel, and delivered it, and slew the Philistines; and the LORD saved them by a great deliverance.

Geneva: And they stood in the middes of the field, and saued it, and slewe the Philistims: so the Lord gaue a great victorie.

KJV: Now three of the thirty captains went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the host of the Philistines encamped in the valley of Rephaim.

Geneva: And three of the thirtie captaines went to a rocke to Dauid, into the caue of Adullam; the armie of the Philistims camped in the valley of Rephaim.

KJV: And David was then in the hold, and the Philistines’ garrison was then at Bethlehem.

Geneva: And when Dauid was in the hold, the Philistims garison was at Beth-lehem.

KJV: And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate!

Geneva: And Dauid longed, and said, Oh, that one would giue me to drinke of the water of the well of Beth-lehem that is at the gate.

KJV: And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to the LORD,

Geneva: Then these three brake thorowe the hoste of the Philistims, and drewe water out of the wel of Beth-lehem that was by the gate, and tooke it and brought it to Dauid: but Dauid would not drinke of it, but powred it for an oblation to the Lord,

KJV: And said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.

Geneva: And said, Let not my God suffer me to do this: should I drinke the blood of these mens liues? for they haue brought it with the ieopardie of their liues: therefore he would not drinke it: these things did these three mightie men.

KJV: And Abishai the brother of Joab, he was chief of the three: for lifting up his spear against three hundred, he slew them, and had a name among the three.

Geneva: And Abishai the brother of Ioab, he was chiefe of the three, & he lift vp his speare against three hundreth, and slew them, and had the name among the three.

KJV: Of the three, he was more honourable than the two; for he was their captain: howbeit he attained not to the first three.

Geneva: Among the three he was more honourable then the two, and he was their captaine: but he attained not vnto the first three.

KJV: Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done many acts; he slew two lionlike men of Moab: also he went down and slew a lion in a pit in a snowy day.

Geneva: Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada (the sonne of a valiant man) which had done many actes, and was of Kabzeel, he slewe two strong men of Moab: he went downe also and slewe a lion in the middes of a pit in time of snowe.

KJV: And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian’s hand was a spear like a weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and slew him with his own spear.

Geneva: And he slewe an Egyptian, a man of great stature, euen fiue cubites long, and in the Egyptians hand was a speare like a weauers beame: and he went downe to him with a staffe, and plucked the speare out of the Egyptians hand, and slewe him with his owne speare.

KJV: These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among the three mighties.

Geneva: These things did Benaiah ye sonne of Iehoiada, & had the name among the three worthies.

KJV: Behold, he was honourable among the thirty, but attained not to the first three: and David set him over his guard.

Geneva: Behold, he was honourable among thirtie, but he attained not vnto the first three. And Dauid made him of his counsell.

KJV: Also the valiant men of the armies were, Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,
