1 Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves’ eyes within thy locks: thy hair is as a flock of goats, that appear from mount Gilead.

Look, you are beautiful, my love; look, you are beautiful. You have gentle, soft-looking eyes like doves in your hair. Your hair is like a group of goats from Mount Gilead, looking neat and tidy.

2 Thy teeth are like a flock of sheep that are even shorn, which came up from the washing; whereof every one bear twins, and none is barren among them.

Your teeth are like a group of sheep that have been sheared evenly, coming from being washed. Each one has twins, and none of them are barren.

3 Thy lips are like a thread of scarlet, and thy speech is comely: thy temples are like a piece of a pomegranate within thy locks.

Your lips look like a red thread, and you speak nicely; your hair has a pomegranate-like shape around your face.

4 Thy neck is like the tower of David builded for an armoury, whereon there hang a thousand bucklers, all shields of mighty men.

Your neck is like the strong tower of David made for storing armor, with a thousand shields hanging on it, protecting the powerful warriors.

5 Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins, which feed among the lilies.

Your two breasts are like two baby deer that look alike, feeding together among the flowers.

6 Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, I will get me to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense.

Until morning comes and shadows disappear, I'll go to the myrrh mountain and the hill with frankincense.

7 Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee.

You are completely beautiful, my love; there are no flaws in you.

8 Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse, with me from Lebanon: look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions’ dens, from the mountains of the leopards.

"Come with me from Lebanon, my love. Let's go together. Look out from Amana's peak, Shenir's peak, and Hermon's peak too. See past the caves where lions live, and over the mountains where leopards roam."

9 Thou hast ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse; thou hast ravished my heart with one of thine eyes, with one chain of thy neck.

You have captivated my heart, my sister, my wife; you have captivated my heart with your eye, with your necklace chain.

10 How fair is thy love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine ointments than all spices!

Your love, dear sister and wife, is so beautiful! It's even better than wine. Your lovely fragrance from your oils is nicer than any other scents.

11 Thy lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb: honey and milk are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon.

Your lips, dear partner, release honeycomb-like drops: you have honey and milk on your tongue, and your clothes smell like Lebanon's fragrance.

12 A garden inclosed is my sister, my spouse; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed.

My sister is like a private garden, and I am her husband. She's like a closed-up spring and a sealed fountain.

13 Thy plants are an orchard of pomegranates, with pleasant fruits; camphire, with spikenard,

Your plants are like a pomegranate garden, with nice fruits; including camphire and spikenard.

14 Spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices:

Spikenard, saffron, calamus, and cinnamon are special trees. Add in frankincense trees too. Also include myrrh and aloes. These are the top spices.

15 A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon.

A fountain of beautiful gardens, a source of fresh water alive with life, and rivers flowing from the mountains of Lebanon.

16 Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits.

"Wake up, north and south winds! Blow on my garden so its fragrant spices spread. Let my loved one enter and enjoy the delicious fruits."
