2 Samuel 4

And when Saul’s son heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, his hands were feeble, and all the Israelites were troubled.

When Saul's son learned that Abner had died in Hebron, he became weak, and all the people of Israel were distressed.

And Saul’s son had two men that were captains of bands: the name of the one was Baanah, and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon a Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin: (for Beeroth also was reckoned to Benjamin.

Saul's son had two leaders of groups. Their names were Baanah and Rechab. They were from a place called Beeroth, which was part of Benjamin's tribe.

And the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and were sojourners there until this day.)

The people from Beeroth ran away to Gittaim and lived there ever since.

And Jonathan, Saul’s son, had a son that was lame of his feet. He was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel, and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it came to pass, as she made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.

Jonathan, Saul's son, had a young son who couldn't walk well. When news arrived about Saul and Jonathan in Jezreel, the boy's nurse quickly tried to escape, but while rushing, he fell and became crippled. His name was Mephibosheth.

And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went, and came about the heat of the day to the house of Ishbosheth, who lay on a bed at noon.

Rechab and Baanah, sons of Rimmon from Beeroth, went to see Ishbosheth in his house during the hottest time of the day when he was lying on a bed.

And they came thither into the midst of the house, as though they would have fetched wheat; and they smote him under the fifth rib: and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.

They went to the center of the house, pretending to get wheat. Then they hit him below the fifth rib. But Rechab and Baanah, his brother, managed to escape.

For when they came into the house, he lay on his bed in his bedchamber, and they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and gat them away through the plain all night.

When they entered the house, he rested in his bedroom, then they attacked and killed him, cut off his head, and grabbed his head before escaping across the open land all night.

And they brought the head of Ishbosheth unto David to Hebron, and said to the king, Behold the head of Ishbosheth the son of Saul thine enemy, which sought thy life; and the LORD hath avenged my lord the king this day of Saul, and of his seed.

They brought Ishbosheth's head to David in Hebron and said, "Here is Ishbosheth's head, son of Saul, your enemy who wanted to kill you. The Lord has taken revenge for you today against Saul and his family."

And David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said unto them, As the LORD liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity,

And David told Rechab and Baanah, his brothers, "By the living God, who saved me from every trouble, I swear."

When one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good tidings, I took hold of him, and slew him in Ziklag, who thought that I would have given him a reward for his tidings:

When someone said to me, "Saul is dead," thinking they were sharing good news, I grabbed them and killed them in Ziklag. They believed I would reward them for their information.

How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?

Why would I let it go when bad people kill a good person in their home while they're in bed? Of course, I will demand justice for that person's death from you, and remove you from this world.

And David commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up over the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbosheth, and buried it in the sepulchre of Abner in Hebron.

David told his young men to kill some people, cut off their hands and feet, and hang them near a pool in Hebron. They also took the head of Ishbosheth and buried it in Abner's tomb in Hebron.
