Chapter 22

KJV: And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:

Geneva: And Dauid spake the woordes of this song vnto the Lorde, what time the Lord had deliuered him out of the handes of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul.

KJV: And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

Geneva: And he sayd, The Lord is my rocke and my fortresse, and he that deliuereth mee.

KJV: The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

Geneva: God is my strength, in him will I trust: my shielde, and the horne of my saluation, my hie tower and my refuge: my Sauiour, thou hast saued me from violence.

KJV: I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

Geneva: I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praysed: so shall I be safe from mine enemies.

KJV: When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;

Geneva: For the pangs of death haue compassed me: the floods of vngodlinesse haue made mee afrayd.

KJV: The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me;

Geneva: The sorowes of the graue compassed mee about: the snares of death ouertooke mee.

KJV: In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.

Geneva: But in my tribulation did I call vpon the Lord, and crie to my God, and he did heare my voyce out of his temple, and my crie did enter into his eares.

KJV: Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth.

Geneva: Then the earth trembled and quaked: the foundations of the heauens mooued and shooke, because he was angrie.

KJV: There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.

Geneva: Smoke went out at his nostrels, and consuming fire out of his mouth: coles were kindled thereat.

KJV: He bowed the heavens also, and came down; and darkness was under his feet.

Geneva: He bowed the heauens also, and came downe, and darkenes was vnder his feete.

KJV: And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: and he was seen upon the wings of the wind.

Geneva: And he rode vpon Cherub and did flie, & hee was seene vpon the winges of the winde.

KJV: And he made darkness pavilions round about him, dark waters, and thick clouds of the skies.

Geneva: And hee made darkenesse a Tabernacle round about him, euen the gatherings of waters, and the cloudes of the ayre.

KJV: Through the brightness before him were coals of fire kindled.

Geneva: At the brightnesse of his presence the coles of fire were kindled.

KJV: The LORD thundered from heaven, and the most High uttered his voice.

Geneva: The Lord thundred from heauen, and the most hie gaue his voyce.

KJV: And he sent out arrows, and scattered them; lightning, and discomfited them.

Geneva: He shot arrowes also, and scattered them: to wit, lightning, and destroyed them.

KJV: And the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were discovered, at the rebuking of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils.

Geneva: The chanels also of the sea appeared, euen the foundations of the worlde were discouered by the rebuking of the Lorde, and at the blast of the breath of his nostrels.

KJV: He sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters;

Geneva: He sent from aboue, and tooke me: hee drewe me out of many waters.

KJV: He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me.

Geneva: He deliuered me from my strong enemie, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me.

KJV: They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay.

Geneva: They preuented me in the day of my calamitie, but the Lord was my stay,

KJV: He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

Geneva: And brought me foorth into a large place: he deliuered me, because he fauoured me.

KJV: The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

Geneva: The Lorde rewarded me according to my righteousnesse: according to the purenesse of mine handes he recompensed me.

KJV: For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God.

Geneva: For I kept the wayes of the Lorde, and did not wickedly against my God.

KJV: For all his judgments were before me: and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them.

Geneva: For all his lawes were before me, and his statutes: I did not depart therefrom.

KJV: I was also upright before him, and have kept myself from mine iniquity.

Geneva: I was vpright also towarde him, and haue kept me from my wickednesse.

KJV: Therefore the LORD hath recompensed me according to my righteousness; according to my cleanness in his eye sight.

Geneva: Therefore the Lord did reward me according to my righteousnesse, according to my purenesse before his eyes.

KJV: With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful, and with the upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright.

Geneva: With the godly thou wilt shewe thy selfe godly: with the vpright man thou wilt shew thy selfe vpright.

KJV: With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself unsavoury.

Geneva: With the pure thou wilt shewe thy selfe pure, and with the frowarde thou wilt shew thy selfe frowarde.

KJV: And the afflicted people thou wilt save: but thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.

Geneva: Thus thou wilt saue the poore people: but thine eyes are vpon the hautie to humble them.

KJV: For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness.

Geneva: Surely thou art my light, O Lorde: and the Lorde will lighten my darkenes.

KJV: For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall.

Geneva: For by thee haue I broken through an hoste, and by my God haue I leaped ouer a wall.

KJV: As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.

Geneva: The way of God is vncorrupt: the word of the Lorde is tryed in the fire: he is a shield to all that trust in him.

KJV: For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God?

Geneva: For who is God besides the Lorde? and who is mightie, saue our God?

KJV: God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.

Geneva: God is my strength in battel, and maketh my way vpright.

KJV: He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet: and setteth me upon my high places.

Geneva: He maketh my feete like hindes feete, & hath set me vpon mine hie places.

KJV: He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.

Geneva: He teacheth mine handes to fight, so that a bowe of brasse is broken with mine armes.

KJV: Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great.

Geneva: Thou hast also giuen me the shield of thy saluation, and thy louing kindnesse hath caused me to increase.

KJV: Thou hast enlarged my steps under me; so that my feet did not slip.

Geneva: Thou hast inlarged my steppes vnder me, and mine heeles haue not slid.

KJV: I have pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them; and turned not again until I had consumed them.

Geneva: I haue pursued mine enemies and destroyed them, and haue not turned againe vntill I had consumed them.

KJV: And I have consumed them, and wounded them, that they could not arise: yea, they are fallen under my feet.

Geneva: Yea, I haue consumed them and thrust them through, and they shall not arise, but shall fall vnder my feete.

KJV: For thou hast girded me with strength to battle: them that rose up against me hast thou subdued under me.

Geneva: For thou hast girded me with power to battell, and them that arose against me, hast thou subdued vnder me.

KJV: Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.

Geneva: And thou hast giuen me the neckes of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.

KJV: They looked, but there was none to save; even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.

Geneva: They looked about, but there was none to saue them, euen vnto the Lord, but he answered them not.

KJV: Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the street, and did spread them abroad.

Geneva: Then did I beate them as small as the dust of the earth: I did treade them flat as the clay of the streete, and did spread them abroad.

KJV: Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people, thou hast kept me to be head of the heathen: a people which I knew not shall serve me.

Geneva: Thou hast also deliuered me from the cotentions of my people: thou hast preserued me to be the head ouer nations: the people which I knewe not, doe serue me.

KJV: Strangers shall submit themselves unto me: as soon as they hear, they shall be obedient unto me.

Geneva: Strangers shalbe in subiection to me: assoone as they heare, they shall obey me.

KJV: Strangers shall fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their close places.

Geneva: Strangers shall shrinke away, and feare in their priuie chambers.

KJV: The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.

Geneva: Let the Lorde liue, and blessed be my strength: and God, euen the force of my saluation be exalted.

KJV: It is God that avengeth me, and that bringeth down the people under me,

Geneva: It is God that giueth me power to reuenge me, and subdue the people vnder me,

KJV: And that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: thou also hast lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.

Geneva: And rescueth me from mine enemies: (thou also hast lift me vp from them that rose against me, thou hast deliuered me from the cruell man.

KJV: Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.

Geneva: Therefore I will praise thee, O Lord amog the nations, and will sing vnto thy Name)

KJV: He is the tower of salvation for his king: and sheweth mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for evermore.

Geneva: He is the tower of saluation for his King, and sheweth mercie to his anointed, euen to Dauid, and to his seede for euer.
