Chapter 5

KJV: Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron, and spake, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

Geneva: Then came all the tribes of Israel to Dauid vnto Hebron, and said thus, Beholde, we are thy bones and thy flesh.

KJV: Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel.

Geneva: And in time past when Saul was our King, thou leddest Israel in and out: and the Lord hath sayde to thee, Thou shalt feede my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captaine ouer Israel.

KJV: So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel.

Geneva: So all the Elders of Israel came to the King to Hebron: and King Dauid made a couenant with them in Hebron before the Lorde: & they anoynted Dauid King ouer Israel.

KJV: David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.

Geneva: Dauid was thirtie yeere olde when he began to reigne: and hee reigned fortie yeere.

KJV: In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.

Geneva: In Hebron hee reigned ouer Iudah seuen yeere, and sixe moneths: and in Ierusalem hee reigned thirtie and three yeeres ouer all Israel and Iudah.

KJV: And the king and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: which spake unto David, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in hither: thinking, David cannot come in hither.

Geneva: The King also and his men went to Ierusalem vnto the Iebusites, the inhabitants of the land: who spake vnto Dauid, saying, Except thou take away the blinde and the lame, thou shalt not come in hither: thinking that Dauid coulde not come thither.

KJV: Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David.

Geneva: But Dauid tooke the fort of Zion: this is the citie of Dauid.

KJV: And David said on that day, Whosoever getteth up to the gutter, and smiteth the Jebusites, and the lame and the blind, that are hated of David’s soul, he shall be chief and captain. Wherefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.

Geneva: Nowe Dauid had sayd the same day, Whosoeuer smiteth the Iebusites, and getteth vp to the gutters and smiteth the lame and blinde, which Dauids soule hateth, I will preferre him: therefore they saide, The blinde and the lame shall not come into that house.

KJV: So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.

Geneva: So Dauid dwelt in that forte, and called it the citie of Dauid, and Dauid built rounde about it, from Millo, and inward.

KJV: And David went on, and grew great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him.

Geneva: And Dauid prospered and grewe: for the Lord God of hostes was with him.

KJV: And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons: and they built David an house.

Geneva: Hiram also king of Tyrus sent messengers to Dauid, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons for walles: and they built Dauid an house.

KJV: And David perceived that the LORD had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel’s sake.

Geneva: Then Dauid knewe that the Lorde had stablished him King ouer Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdome for his people Israels sake.

KJV: And David took him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he was come from Hebron: and there were yet sons and daughters born to David.

Geneva: And Dauid tooke him mo concubines & wiues out of Ierusalem, after hee was come from Hebron, & mo sonnes and daughters were borne to Dauid.

KJV: And these be the names of those that were born unto him in Jerusalem; Shammuah, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,

Geneva: And these bee the names of the sonnes that were borne vnto him in Ierusale: Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Salomon,

KJV: Ibhar also, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

Geneva: And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Iaphia,

KJV: And Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphalet.

Geneva: And Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphalet.

KJV: But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the hold.

Geneva: But when the Philistims hearde that they had anoynted Dauid King ouer Israel, all the Philistims came vp to seeke Dauid: and when Dauid heard, he went downe to a fort.

KJV: The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

Geneva: But the Philistims came, and spred themselues in the valley of Rephaim.

KJV: And David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand.

Geneva: Then Dauid asked counsel of the Lorde, saying, Shall I goe vp to the Philistims? wilt thou deliuer them into mine handes? And the Lorde answered Dauid, Goe vp: for I will doubtlesse deliuer the Philistims into thine handes.

KJV: And David came to Baalperazim, and David smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baalperazim.

Geneva: Then Dauid came to Baal-perazim, & smote them there, and sayde, The Lorde hath deuided mine enemies asunder before mee, as waters be deuided asunder: therefore he called the name of that place, Baal-perazim.

KJV: And there they left their images, and David and his men burned them.

Geneva: And there they left their images, and Dauid and his men burnt them.

KJV: And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

Geneva: Againe the Philistims came vp, and spred themselues in the valley of Rephaim.

KJV: And when David enquired of the LORD, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.

Geneva: And when Dauid asked counsell of the Lorde, hee answered, Thou shalt not goe vp, but turne about behinde them, and come vpon them ouer against the mulberie trees.

KJV: And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the LORD go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.

Geneva: And when thou hearest the noyse of one going in the toppes of the mulberie trees, then remoue: for then shall the Lord goe out before thee, to smite the hoste of the Philistims.

KJV: And David did so, as the LORD had commanded him; and smote the Philistines from Geba until thou come to Gazer.

Geneva: Then Dauid did so as the Lorde had commanded him, and smote the Philistims from Geba, vntil thou come to Gazer.
