1 Samuel

Tells about Samuel, the last judge, and the beginning of Israel's monarchy with King Saul and young David.

Chapter 14

KJV - 1 Samuel 14:52

And there was sore war against the Philistines all the days of Saul: and when Saul saw any strong man, or any valiant man, he took him unto him.

There was constant fighting with the Philistines during Saul's reign. Whenever Saul saw a strong or brave person, he would recruit them into his forces.
