Tells about Samuel, the last judge, and the beginning of Israel's monarchy with King Saul and young David.

Chapter 13

KJV - 1 Samuel 13:4

And all Israel heard say that Saul had smitten a garrison of the Philistines, and that Israel also was had in abomination with the Philistines. And the people were called together after Saul to Gilgal.

All of Israel learned that Saul defeated a group of Philistine soldiers. The people strongly disliked the Philistines. Everyone gathered at a place called Gilgal under Saul's leadership.
