*The children of Levi are Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

*And the children of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.

*And Amram's children were Aaron, Moses, and Miriam. Aaron's sons were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

*Eleazar had a son named Phinehas, and Phinehas had a son named Abishua.

*And Abishua had a child named Bukki, and Bukki had a child named Uzzi.

*And Uzziah had a son named Zerahiah, who then had a son named Meraioth.

*Meraioth had a child named Amariah, and Amariah had a child called Ahitub.

*Ahitub had a son named Zadok, and Zadok had a son named Ahimaaz.

*Ahimaaz had a son named Azariah, and Azariah had a son named Johanan.

*Johanan had a son named Azariah, who was the priest in charge at the temple Solomon built in Jerusalem.

*And Azariah had a child named Amariah, who then had a child named Ahitub.

*Ahitub had a son named Zadok, and Zadok had a son named Shallum.

*Shallum had a son named Hilkiah, and Hilkiah had a son named Azariah.

*And Azariah had a son named Seraiah, and Seraiah had a son named Jehozadak.

*Jehozadak was taken captive when God, through Nebuchadnezzar, took Judah and Jerusalem.

*The children of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

*These are the names of Gershom's sons: Libni and Shimei.

*The children of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.

*The descendants of Merari are Mahli and Mushi. These groups are part of the Levite family, based on their ancestors.

*From Gershom's family: Libni was his son, followed by Jahath, then Zimmah.

*Joah had a son named Iddo. Iddo had a son named Zerah. Zerah had a son named Jeaterai.

*The children of Kohath: Amminadab was his son, Korah was his son, and Assir was his son too.

*Elkanah had a son, and Ebiasaph also had a son, as well as Assir had a son.

*Tahath was a son, followed by Uriel, then Uzziah, and finally Shaul.

*And Elkanah's children were Amasai and Ahimoth.

*Elkanah's children were Zophai and Nahath, his two sons.

*Eliab was someone's child, Jeroham was Eliab's child, and Elkanah was Jeroham's child.

*And Samuel's children were the first one named Vashni, and the second one was Abiah.

*The children of Merari: Mahli, Libni's son, Shimei's son, Uzza's son.

*Shimea had a son named Haggiah, and Haggiah had a son named Asaiah.

*These are the people David appointed to lead songs in the Lord's house when the ark settled down.

*They served at the tabernacle, singing, until Solomon built God's house in Jerusalem. After that, they continued their duties as assigned.

*These people waited with their kids. They were from the descendants of the Kohathites. One notable person was Heman, who sang. He was the son of Joel and Joel was the son of Shemuel.

*Elkanah's son, Jeroham's son, Eliel's son, Toah's son.

*The descendant of Zuph, descendant of Elkanah, descendant of Mahath, descendant of Amasai.

*Elkanah's son, Joel's son, Azariah's son, Zephaniah's son.

*The descendant of Tahath, the descendant of Assir, the descendant of Ebiasaph, the descendant of Korah.

*From Izhar's child, through Kohath, to Levi's child, and then to Israel's child.

*The child of Ethni, the child of Zerah, the child of Adaiah,

*The child of Ethan, the child of Zimmah, the child of Shimei,

*The descendant of Jahath, the descendant of Gershom, the descendant of Levi.

*And the brothers from the tribe of Merari stood on the left side: Ethan, whose father was Kishi, and Kishi's father was Abdi, and Abdi's father was Malluch.

*The child of Hashabiah, the child of Amaziah, the child of Hilkiah,

*The descendant of Amzi, the descendant of Bani, the descendant of Shamer,

*The descendant of Mahli, descendant of Mushi, descendant of Merari, descendant of Levi.

*The Levites, their brothers, were assigned to help with all kinds of tasks for the tent of God's home.

*But Aaron and his sons offered sacrifices on the special altars for burning offerings and incense. They were in charge of all the important tasks in the very holy place, and they made up for Israel's mistakes, just like Moses, God's helper, told them to do.

*These are Aaron's children: Eleazar, who is his firstborn, then Phinehas, and lastly Abishua.

*Bukki was his child, Uzzi was another child, and Zerahiah was yet another child.

*Meraioth was a son, Amariah was a son too, and Ahitub was also a son.

*Zadok's son and Ahimaaz's son.

*Now, these are where the people from the family of Aaron lived in their castles by the coast. The Kohathites were their family, and they got this land as their share.

*So, they gave the people Hebron in Judah's land, along with the areas nearby.

*But the city's fields and its villages, they gave to Caleb, son of Jephunneh.

*They gave the cities of Judah to Aaron's children. These include Hebron, a city of safety, Libnah and its surrounding areas, Jattir, and Eshtemoa with their surrounding areas too.

*And Hilen and its surroundings, Debir and its surroundings,

*And Ashan along with its outlying areas, and Bethshemesh with its outlying areas:

*From the Benjamin tribe, three places with their surrounding areas were mentioned: Geba, Alemeth, and Anathoth. These towns had a total of 13 cities belonging to different family groups.

*To the remaining sons of Kohath, from the tribe's family, ten cities were given from half of the Manasseh tribe through a random selection process.

*To the descendants of Gershom, in the families from the groups of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and Manasseh in Bashan, there were thirteen cities.

*The sons of Merari received twelve cities through a drawing of lots for their families. These cities were from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.

*The Israelite kids gave the Levites those cities and their surrounding areas.

*They randomly chose cities from the descendants of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin, giving them their names.

*The remaining families of Kohath's descendants had cities along their shores from the area of the tribe called Ephraim.

*They gave the cities of refuge, Shechem in Mount Ephraim and its surrounding areas, along with Gezer and its surrounding areas.

*And Jokmeam and its surrounding areas, and Bethhoron and its surrounding areas,

*And Aijalon including its outlying areas, and Gathrimmon including its outlying areas:

*From half of the tribe of Manasseh, Aner and its surrounding areas, and Bileam and its surrounding areas were given to the family of the remaining sons of Kohath.

*To the descendants of Gershom, they gave land from the half tribe of Manasseh. This land included Golan in Bashan and its surrounding areas, as well as Ashtaroth and its surrounding areas.

*From the tribe of Issachar came Kedesh and its surrounding areas, as well as Daberath and its surrounding areas.

*And Ramoth including its outlying areas, and Anem including its outlying areas:

*From the group called Asher, two areas were taken: one named Mashal with its surrounding area, and another called Abdon with its surrounding area.

*And Hukok along with its outlying areas, and Rehob along with its outlying areas:

*From the group of people called Naphtali, three places and their surrounding areas are mentioned: Kedesh in Galilee, Hammon, and Kirjathaim.

*To the other descendants of Merari, they gave Rimmon and its surrounding areas, as well as Tabor and its surrounding areas, from the tribe of Zebulun.

*On the eastern side of Jordan, near Jericho, from the tribe of Reuben, the people received the areas called Bezer and its surroundings, as well as Jahzah and its surroundings.

*Kedemoth and its surrounding areas, as well as Mephaath and its surrounding areas.

*From the tribe of Gad, two places with their surrounding areas: Ramoth in Gilead and Mahanaim.

*And Heshbon and its surrounding areas, and Jazer and its surrounding areas.
