Acts 11

And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

The apostles and friends in Judea learned that non-Jews also got God's message.

And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,

When Peter arrived in Jerusalem, those who were circumcised argued with him.

Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.

He went into the uncircumcised people's place and ate with them.

But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,

But Peter explained everything from the start, and went through it step by step for them, saying,

I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:

I was in the city of Joppa praying. In a trance, I had a vision: a large sheet like a blanket came down from heaven, pulled by four corners, and it reached me directly.

Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

When I looked at it, I noticed different creatures: land animals, wild animals, crawling creatures, and birds in the sky.

And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.

I heard a voice telling me, "Peter, get up; kill and eat."

But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.

But I told Him, No, Lord: because I've never let anything ordinary or unclean enter my mouth.

But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

But the voice said to me once more from the sky, Whatever God has made pure, don't treat as ordinary.

And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.

This happened three times, and everyone went back up to heaven.

And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me.

And suddenly, three men arrived at my house, sent by someone from Caesarea to me.

And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house:

The Spirit told me to go with them, not hesitating. Also, six other brothers came with me, and we went inside the man's house.

And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter;

He told us about seeing an angel at his home who instructed him to send messengers to Joppa and fetch Simon, also known as Peter.

Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

Who will give you messages that will save you and your entire family?

And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

As I started talking, the Holy Spirit came upon them, just like it did with us when we first started.

Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

I recalled the Lord's message, saying that John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

Since God gave them the same gift as he gave to us believers in Jesus Christ, how could I possibly stand against God's decision?

When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

When they heard this, they were quiet and praised God, saying, "God has also allowed the non-Jews to repent and live a better life."

Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only.

Those who were forced to leave due to persecution against Stephen spread out to places like Phenice, Cyprus, and Antioch, sharing the message with only Jewish people.

And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the LORD Jesus.

Some were from Cyprus and Cyrene who, when they reached Antioch, talked to the Greeks about Lord Jesus.

And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

The Lord's hand supported them, and many people believed, turning to Him.

Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.

The news about these events reached the church in Jerusalem, so they sent Barnabas to go all the way to Antioch.

Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.

When he arrived and saw God's kindness, he was happy and encouraged everyone to wholeheartedly follow the Lord.

For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

He was a good person, filled with the Holy Spirit and faith. Many people joined the Lord as a result.

Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:

Then, Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul.

And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

When he found him, he took him to Antioch. There, for a whole year, they met with the church and taught many people. In Antioch, the disciples were first called Christians.

And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.

In these times, prophets traveled from Jerusalem to Antioch.

And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.

A man named Agabus stood up and, guided by the Spirit, warned that a severe famine would happen worldwide. This happened during the time of Claudius Caesar.

Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:

Then, the helpers decided to give aid to their family members living in Judaea, based on what they could each provide.

Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

They did this too, and sent it through Barnabas and Saul to the older people.
