Acts 20

And after the uproar was ceased, Paul called unto him the disciples, and embraced them, and departed for to go into Macedonia.

After the noise stopped, Paul called the followers and hugged them before leaving to go to Macedonia.

And when he had gone over those parts, and had given them much exhortation, he came into Greece,

After traveling through those areas, he encouraged the people a lot, then he went to Greece.

And there abode three months. And when the Jews laid wait for him, as he was about to sail into Syria, he purposed to return through Macedonia.

He stayed for three months. When the Jews tried to catch him before he went to Syria, he decided to go back through Macedonia instead.

And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus.

Sopater from Berea went with him to Asia, along with Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica, Gaius from Derbe, Timotheus, Tychicus from Asia, and Trophimus.

These going before tarried for us at Troas.

These people who went ahead waited for us in the city of Troas.

And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days.

We left Philippi after the bread without yeast time and went to Troas in five days, staying there for a week.

And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

On the first day of the week, when the disciples met to eat, Paul spoke to them before leaving the next day. He talked all night until midnight.

And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together.

There were lots of lights upstairs where they met.

And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.

A young man named Eutychus sat by a window. He fell asleep deeply. While Paul spoke for a long time, Eutychus slowly slid down and fell from the third level, dying.

And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him.

Paul descended, hugged the person, and said, "Don't worry; he's fine."

When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed.

After he came back, broke bread, ate, and talked for a long time until dawn, he left.

And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted.

They brought back the youth alive, and felt much better.

And we went before to ship, and sailed unto Assos, there intending to take in Paul: for so had he appointed, minding himself to go afoot.

We traveled to the ship and sailed to Assos to pick up Paul. He planned this, wanting to walk instead of taking the ship.

And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in, and came to Mitylene.

When he joined us at Assos, we welcomed him, and went to Mitylene together.

And we sailed thence, and came the next day over against Chios; and the next day we arrived at Samos, and tarried at Trogyllium; and the next day we came to Miletus.

So, we sailed to a new place and reached Chios the following day. Then, we went to Samos and stayed in Trogyllium. After that, we arrived at Miletus the next day.

For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.

Paul wanted to travel through Ephesus and not stay long in Asia. He was eager to reach Jerusalem by the day of Pentecost, if possible.

And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church.

He sent a message from Miletus to Ephesus and gathered the church leaders.

And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons,

When they reached him, he told them, "I've made it clear since I arrived in Asia how I've been with you in every situation."

Serving the LORD with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:

Serving God with a humble mind, lots of tears, and facing challenges from the Jews who were hiding to attack.

And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house,

I didn't hold back anything valuable for you. I showed you and taught you openly, as well as visiting homes one by one.

Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

This means that we tell everyone, whether they are Jewish or Greek, they need to say sorry to God and believe in our leader, Jesus Christ, for forgiveness.

And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there:

Now, see, I am heading to Jerusalem guided by my spirit, unaware of what will happen to me when I get there.

Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.

The Holy Spirit confirms my experiences of being bound and facing troubles in every city.

But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

But nothing like this bothers me, and I don't value my life very much, just so I can complete what I started happily and fulfill the task given to me by Jesus to share the good news about God's kindness.

And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.

And now, understand, I know that all of you, who I've been teaching about God's kingdom, will not see my face again.

Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men.

So, I'm telling you now that I'm not responsible for anyone's death.

For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.

For I haven't avoided telling you everything that God wants you to know.

Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

So be careful and look after everyone, because the Holy Spirit has chosen you to lead and take care of God's church, which He bought with His own blood.

For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

I know that after I'm gone, cruel wolves will come into your group and won't care about the sheep.

Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.

People from within will also appear, teaching wrong ideas, to lead others astray.

Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.

So, keep an eye out and remember, for three years I didn't stop warning everyone, day and night, with tears.

And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

Now, dear friends, I entrust you to God and his kind words. They can strengthen you and give you a special place with all the holy people.

I have coveted no man’s silver, or gold, or apparel.

I haven't wanted anyone else's money or valuable things.

Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me.

Yes, you understand that these hands helped meet my needs and those with me.

I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

I've shown you everything; when working hard, you should help those who struggle and remember what Jesus said: "Giving is more blessings than receiving."

And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all.

Then, after saying this, he knelt and prayed together with everyone.

And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul’s neck, and kissed him,

Everyone cried a lot, hugged Paul, and kissed him.

Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship.

Feeling the most sadness about what he said, wishing they could see his face again. They went with him to the boat.
