Chapter 3

1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

*So, dear brothers, who share in the divine invitation, think about the Apostle and Chief Priest of our work, Jesus Christ.

2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.

*Who remained loyal to the one who chose him, just like Moses was always loyal in everything he did.

3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.

*This person was considered more deserving of greater praise than Moses because the one who built the house has more importance than the house itself.

4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.

*Every home is made by someone, but the one who made everything is God.

5 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;

*Moses was truly faithful in everything he did, like a dedicated worker, to showcase what would be said later.

6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

*But Jesus is like a son in charge of his own home. We are part of that home if we keep believing and being happy about our hope until the very end.

7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,

*So (because the Holy Spirit says), If you want to listen today,

8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:

*Don't make your hearts stubborn like in the time of anger, when you are tempted in the desert.

9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.

*When your ancestors tested me, checked my powers, and watched what I did for forty years.

10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.

*Because of that group of people, I felt sad and said that they always make mistakes in their hearts and don't understand my ways.

11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)

*So I promise in my anger, they won't experience my peaceful resting place.

12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

*Be careful, brothers, so that you don't have a bad heart that doesn't believe, when leaving the living God.

13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

*Encourage each other every day, because today is the time to do it; so no one gets too used to sin and its trickery.

14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;

*If we have a strong belief in Christ from the start and keep it until the end, we become part of him.

15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.

*If you hear the voice today, don't make your hearts stubborn like before when you were angry.

16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.

*Some people, after hearing, caused trouble, but not everyone who left Egypt with Moses.

17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?

*But for which person was he upset for forty years? Wasn't it those who did wrong, and whose bodies fell in the desert?

18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?

*Who did God promise that they wouldn't enter His resting place, if not to the people who didn't believe in Him?

19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

*So, people couldn't get in since they didn't believe.
