Hebrews

Explains Jesus' superiority and encourages believers to persevere in faith amid persecution.

Chapter 13

2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

*Don't forget to welcome strangers: because, in doing so, some people have accidentally hosted angels.

3 Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.

*Remember those in prison like you're with them, and those facing hard times like they're part of you too.

4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

*Marriage is good and pure; God dislikes people who have multiple partners or cheat. He will judge them.

5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

*Keep your talking free from greed and be happy with what you have. God promises not to leave or abandon you.

6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

*So we can confidently say, God helps me, and I won't be scared of what people might do to me.

7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

*Remember those who lead you, who teach you God's word. Follow their faith and think about where their life is headed.

8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

*Jesus Christ is the same today and always will be.

9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

*Don't get caught up in different and unusual teachings. It's good for your heart to be strengthened by grace, not by eating certain foods, because those foods haven't helped the people who focused on them.

10 We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.

*We have an altar that those serving the tent cannot eat from.

11 For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.

*The bodies of animals used for sin offerings by the high priest are burned outside the camp.

12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.

*So, Jesus endured suffering outside the city to cleanse people using his blood.

13 Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.

*So let's go to him outside the camp, carrying the disgrace he faces.

14 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.

*We don't have a permanent home here, so we look for one in the future.

15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

*So, we should always thank God using our words, which shows our appreciation for who he is.

16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

*Don't forget to do good and share; because God likes these kinds of offerings.

17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

*Follow those in charge and obey them, as you should. They keep an eye on your well-being because they have to report to someone, so they can feel happy about it and not sad. This way, things will be better for you.

18 Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.

*Pray that we succeed: because we believe our conscience is clear, and we want to always act honestly in everything.

19 But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.

*But please, let me do this faster so I can be with you sooner.

20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

*Now the God of peace, who raised our Lord Jesus from the dead, is the great shepherd of all believers. This is done through the power of an eternal agreement shown by Jesus's blood.

21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

*Make you perfect in doing good, wanting to do his will, working in you what pleases him, through Jesus Christ. Glory to him forever and ever. Amen.

22 And I beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words.

*I kindly ask you, dear friends, to listen to the encouraging message. I wrote you a short letter with just a few words.

23 Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty; with whom, if he come shortly, I will see you.

*Understand that Timothy, our brother, is now free; if he arrives soon, I will meet you.

24 Salute all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy salute you.

*Greet those in charge and all the holy people. The people from Italy send their greetings to you.

25 Grace be with you all. Amen.

*May kindness be with everyone. Yes, indeed.
