Chapter 35

1 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

*Additionally, the LORD's message reached me, stating,

2 Son of man, set thy face against mount Seir, and prophesy against it,

*Son of man, focus on facing Mount Seir and speak against it as a prophet.

3 And say unto it, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O mount Seir, I am against thee, and I will stretch out mine hand against thee, and I will make thee most desolate.

*And tell it, The Lord God says: Look, Mount Seir, I am against you. I will raise my hand against you and make you very empty and barren.

4 I will lay thy cities waste, and thou shalt be desolate, and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.

*I will destroy your cities, leaving them empty, and you'll realize that I am in control.

5 Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end:

*Because you have always hated them, and spilled the blood of Israel's children using violence during their difficult times, when their sins came to an end.

6 Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee: sith thou hast not hated blood, even blood shall pursue thee.

*So, the Lord God says, "I will make you ready for bloodshed, and blood will chase you. Since you haven't hated blood, it will chase you."

7 Thus will I make mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it him that passeth out and him that returneth.

*In this way, I will make Mount Seir very empty and remove both those who leave and those who come back.

8 And I will fill his mountains with his slain men: in thy hills, and in thy valleys, and in all thy rivers, shall they fall that are slain with the sword.

*I will fill the mountains with those he kills: in your hills, valleys, and rivers, the sword will cause many to fall.

9 I will make thee perpetual desolations, and thy cities shall not return: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

*I will cause you to be eternal ruins, and your towns won't come back; you'll understand that I am God.

10 Because thou hast said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas the LORD was there:

*Because you said that these two lands and these two nations belong to us, and we will take them over. But actually, the LORD is already there.

11 Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will even do according to thine anger, and according to thine envy which thou hast used out of thy hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I have judged thee.

*So, the Lord God promises, "I will act based on your anger and jealousy, stemming from your hate. Once I judge you, I'll reveal Myself to them."

12 And thou shalt know that I am the LORD, and that I have heard all thy blasphemies which thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given us to consume.

*You will understand that I am the Lord, and I have heard all the disrespectful words you have said about the mountains of Israel, claiming they are destroyed and we can take them.

13 Thus with your mouth ye have boasted against me, and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard them.

*So you bragged about beating me with your words and said a lot more. I heard everything.

14 Thus saith the Lord GOD; When the whole earth rejoiceth, I will make thee desolate.

*So says the Lord God: When the entire world celebrates, I will cause you to be empty and abandoned.

15 As thou didst rejoice at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do unto thee: thou shalt be desolate, O mount Seir, and all Idumea, even all of it: and they shall know that I am the LORD.

*Just as you were happy when you inherited the empty land of Israel, I will make you empty too, Mount Seir and all Idumea. Everyone will know I am the Lord.
