And the priests’ custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest’s servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;

The priests' practice involved taking a share from what people sacrificed. When a person offered a sacrifice, the priest's helper would come when the meat was cooking, using a tool called a fleshhook with three teeth to take some of it.
