1 Why, seeing times are not hidden from the Almighty, do they that know him not see his days?
*Why, since the Almighty can't miss anything, do those who don't know him not notice his time?
2 Some remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and feed thereof.
*Some people change boundaries and forcefully steal sheep, then use them for food.
3 They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow’s ox for a pledge.
*They steal the orphan's donkey, they take the widow's cow as collateral.
4 They turn the needy out of the way: the poor of the earth hide themselves together.
*They push away those in need: the poor on Earth gather secretly.
5 Behold, as wild asses in the desert, go they forth to their work; rising betimes for a prey: the wilderness yieldeth food for them and for their children.
*Look, like wild donkeys in the desert, they go out to do their work early in the morning to find food. The desert provides nourishment not only for them but also for their children.
6 They reap every one his corn in the field: and they gather the vintage of the wicked.
*They harvest all their crops from the fields: and they collect the grapes of those who do wrong.
7 They cause the naked to lodge without clothing, that they have no covering in the cold.
*They make bare people stay with no clothes, leaving them unprotected in the cold.
8 They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for want of a shelter.
*They get wet from mountain rain and cling to rocks because they have no shelter.
9 They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor.
*They remove children without parents from their caregiver, and ask for a promise from the poor people.
10 They cause him to go naked without clothing, and they take away the sheaf from the hungry;
*They make him walk without clothes and they take food away from the hungry person.
11 Which make oil within their walls, and tread their winepresses, and suffer thirst.
*Which create oil inside their homes, press grapes for wine, and endure thirst.
12 Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded crieth out: yet God layeth not folly to them.
*People moan in the city, and the hurt person's soul cries out. But God doesn't make them foolish.
13 They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof.
*They are part of those who go against the light; they don't understand its ways or stay on its paths.
14 The murderer rising with the light killeth the poor and needy, and in the night is as a thief.
*The person who commits murder during the day kills the helpless and those without resources, while at night they act like a thief.
15 The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguiseth his face.
*The adulterer's eye looks for dark times when no one will see him, and hides his face.
16 In the dark they dig through houses, which they had marked for themselves in the daytime: they know not the light.
*In the dark, they dig into homes they picked during the day. They don't understand light.
17 For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one know them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death.
*For them, morning is like the shadow of death. If you know them, you'll see them in the terrors of that shadow.
18 He is swift as the waters; their portion is cursed in the earth: he beholdeth not the way of the vineyards.
*He moves fast like water; his part on Earth is cursed: he does not see how vineyards work.
19 Drought and heat consume the snow waters: so doth the grave those which have sinned.
*Drought and heat make snow melt away; similarly, the grave punishes those who have done wrong.
20 The womb shall forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree.
*The place where he grew will forget him. A worm will enjoy eating him. No one will remember him anymore. Wickedness will be destroyed like a broken tree.
21 He evil entreateth the barren that beareth not: and doeth not good to the widow.
*He cruelly treats those who cannot have children and does not help the childless widow.
22 He draweth also the mighty with his power: he riseth up, and no man is sure of life.
*He pulls strong people using his strength; suddenly, he rises, and nobody knows who will live.
23 Though it be given him to be in safety, whereon he resteth; yet his eyes are upon their ways.
*Even if he is safe and resting, he still watches their actions closely.
24 They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other, and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn.
*For a short time, they feel great, but then disappear and fall. They're removed like everyone else and cut off like the tops of corn.
25 And if it be not so now, who will make me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth?
*If this isn't true now, who will prove me wrong, making my words meaningless?
