Chapter 14

KJV: So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.

Geneva: So Abiiah slept with his fathers, and they buryed him in the citie of Dauid, and Asa his sonne reigned in his steade: in whose dayes the lande was quiet ten yeere.

KJV: And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:

Geneva: And Asa did that was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God.

KJV: For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:

Geneva: For he tooke away the altars of the strange gods and the hie places, and brake downe the images, and cut downe the groues,

KJV: And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

Geneva: And commanded Iudah to seeke the Lord God of their fathers, and to doe according to the Lawe and the comandement.

KJV: Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.

Geneva: And he tooke away out of all the cities of Iudah the hie places, and the images: therefore the kingdome was quiet before him.

KJV: And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.

Geneva: He built also strong cities in Iudah, because the lande was in rest, and he had no warre in those yeeres: for the Lord had giuen him rest.

KJV: Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.

Geneva: Therefore he saide to Iudah, Let vs builde these cities and make walles about, and towers, gates, and barres, whiles the lande is before vs: because we haue sought the Lorde our God, we haue sought him, and he hath giuen vs rest on euery side: so they built and prospered.

KJV: And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.

Geneva: And Asa had an armie of Iudah that bare shieldes and speares, three hundreth thousande, and of Beniamin that bare shieldes and drewe bowes, two hundreth and foure score thousande: all these were valiant men.

KJV: And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.

Geneva: And there came out against them Zerah of Ethiopia with an hoste of ten hundreth thousande, and three hundreth charets, and came vnto Mareshah.

KJV: Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

Geneva: Then Asa went out before him, and they set the battell in aray in the valley of Zephathah beside Mareshah.

KJV: And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.

Geneva: And Asa cryed vnto the Lorde his God, and saide, Lord, it is nothing with thee to helpe with many, or with no power: helpe vs, O Lorde our God: for we rest on thee, and in thy Name are we come against this multitude: O Lorde, thou art our God, let not man preuaile against thee.

KJV: So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

Geneva: So the Lord smote the Ethiopians before Asa and before Iudah, and the Ethiopians fled.

KJV: And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.

Geneva: And Asa and the people that was with him, pursued them vnto Gerar; the Ethiopians hoste was ouerthrowen, so that there was no life in them: for they were destroyed before the Lorde and before his hoste: and they caryed away a mightie great spoyle.

KJV: And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.

Geneva: And they smote all the cities rounde about Gerar: for the feare of the Lorde came vpon them, and they spoyled all the cities, for there was exceeding much spoyle in them.

KJV: They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.

Geneva: Yea, and they smote the tents of cattel, and carried away plentie of sheepe and camels, and returned to Ierusalem.
