1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

*I encourage the older people in your group, including myself as one of them. I'm also a witness to Christ's suffering and will share in the future glory that will be revealed.

2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

*Take care of God's group of people around you, watch over them happily, not because you have to, but because you want to; do it for the right reasons, not for money.

3 Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.

*Don't act like bossy leaders over what belongs to God, but be examples for the group of people he cares for.

4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

*When the main shepherd shows up, you'll get a glory crown that never fades.

5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

*So, younger ones, listen to those who are older. Everyone should respect each other and be humble. God doesn't like those who think they are better than others, but He helps those who are humble.

6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

*Humble yourselves under God's powerful hand so He can lift you up when the right time comes.

7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

*Give Him all your worries; because He takes care of you.

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

*Stay alert and self-controlled, because the devil, like a loud roaring lion, is always looking for someone to harm.

9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

*Stand firm in your faith, understanding that the same trials happening to your fellow believers around the world will also happen to you.

10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

*But the God of all kindness, who invited us to his endless glory through Christ Jesus, after you endure for a bit, makes you complete, confirms, fortifies, and settles you.

11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

*To that person goes eternal praise and control. Yes, indeed.

12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.

*By Silvanus, a loyal friend to you, I believe, I wrote a short message encouraging you and proving that this is the real kindness of God you are experiencing.

13 The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.

*The church in Babylon, chosen with you, greets you; and my son Marcus also greets you.

14 Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.

*Say hello to each other with a kind gesture. May peace be with everyone who follows Christ Jesus. Yes, that's it.
