Chapter 10

1 Then I looked, and, behold, in the firmament that was above the head of the cherubims there appeared over them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne.

*Then I saw, and there above the cherubim's heads, a bright blue stone like sapphire seemed to appear, looking like a throne's shape.

2 And he spake unto the man clothed with linen, and said, Go in between the wheels, even under the cherub, and fill thine hand with coals of fire from between the cherubims, and scatter them over the city. And he went in in my sight.

*He told the man wearing linen to go between the wheels, under the cherub, and take hot coals from between the cherubim. He was then to scatter the coals over the city. The man did this while I watched.

3 Now the cherubims stood on the right side of the house, when the man went in; and the cloud filled the inner court.

*Now, the cherubim were on the right side as the person entered the building, and the cloud filled the inside area.

4 Then the glory of the LORD went up from the cherub, and stood over the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the LORD’s glory.

*Then, the Lord's great light left the cherubs and hovered above the entrance of the building. The entire building was filled with a thick cloud, and the courtyard shone brightly because of the Lord's wonderful light.

5 And the sound of the cherubims’ wings was heard even to the outer court, as the voice of the Almighty God when he speaketh.

*The cherubims' wing sounds reached the outer court, like God's voice when He speaks.

6 And it came to pass, that when he had commanded the man clothed with linen, saying, Take fire from between the wheels, from between the cherubims; then he went in, and stood beside the wheels.

*One day, after the man in linen was told to get fire from between the wheels and the cherubim creatures, he did so and went inside to stand by the wheels.

7 And one cherub stretched forth his hand from between the cherubims unto the fire that was between the cherubims, and took thereof, and put it into the hands of him that was clothed with linen: who took it, and went out.

*An angel reached out and grabbed some fire from between the angels, then gave it to a person wearing white clothes. That person took the fire and left.

8 And there appeared in the cherubims the form of a man’s hand under their wings.

*A human hand shape showed up on the cherubim creatures, near their wings.

9 And when I looked, behold the four wheels by the cherubims, one wheel by one cherub, and another wheel by another cherub: and the appearance of the wheels was as the colour of a beryl stone.

*Then I saw: the four wheels were with the cherubs, one wheel for each cherub, and another wheel for each cherub too; the way the wheels looked was like the color of an emerald stone.

10 And as for their appearances, they four had one likeness, as if a wheel had been in the midst of a wheel.

*The four of them looked similar, like a wheel inside another wheel.

11 When they went, they went upon their four sides; they turned not as they went, but to the place whither the head looked they followed it; they turned not as they went.

*When they moved, they went in all directions; they didn't change direction while moving, but they went where the head faced. They didn't turn around.

12 And their whole body, and their backs, and their hands, and their wings, and the wheels, were full of eyes round about, even the wheels that they four had.

*Their entire body, back, hands, wings, and the four wheels were covered with eyes all around. These were the wheels they each had.

13 As for the wheels, it was cried unto them in my hearing, O wheel.

*Regarding the wheels, someone called out to them while I could hear, "Wheel!"

14 And every one had four faces: the first face was the face of a cherub, and the second face was the face of a man, and the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.

*Everyone had 4 faces: one looked like a cherub, another like a man, another like a lion, and the last like an eagle.

15 And the cherubims were lifted up. This is the living creature that I saw by the river of Chebar.

*The cherubs rose up. These are the living creatures I saw near the Chebar river.

16 And when the cherubims went, the wheels went by them: and when the cherubims lifted up their wings to mount up from the earth, the same wheels also turned not from beside them.

*When the cherubim creatures moved, the wheels followed them. When the cherubim creatures lifted their wings to leave the ground, the wheels stayed right next to them.

17 When they stood, these stood; and when they were lifted up, these lifted up themselves also: for the spirit of the living creature was in them.

*When they stood, they also stood; when they were raised, they raised themselves too: because the spirit of the living being was within them.

18 Then the glory of the LORD departed from off the threshold of the house, and stood over the cherubims.

*Then God's great light left the entrance of the house and stood above the winged creatures.

19 And the cherubims lifted up their wings, and mounted up from the earth in my sight: when they went out, the wheels also were beside them, and every one stood at the door of the east gate of the LORD’s house; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above.

*The cherubim angels lifted their wings and rose from the ground in front of me. When they left, the wheels were next to them. Each one stood at the entrance of the east gate of God's house, and the glory of Israel's God shone down on them.

20 This is the living creature that I saw under the God of Israel by the river of Chebar; and I knew that they were the cherubims.

*I saw a living being under God's power near the Chebar river, and I realized it was a cherubim.

21 Every one had four faces apiece, and every one four wings; and the likeness of the hands of a man was under their wings.

*Each one had 4 faces and 4 wings, and where their wings were attached, it looked like a person's hands.

22 And the likeness of their faces was the same faces which I saw by the river of Chebar, their appearances and themselves: they went every one straight forward.

*The faces of these statues looked just like the faces I saw near the Chebar River. They all moved forward in the same direction.
