Chapter 4

1 Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.

*Bosses, treat your workers fairly; remembering you too have a boss in heaven.

2 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;

*Keep praying and stay alert while giving thanks.

3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:

*Additionally, they prayed for us, asking God to open a way for us to share the message of Christ, which I am also bound for.

4 That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.

*So that I can clearly show it, as I should talk.

5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

*Walk wisely with those outside, making good use of your time.

6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

*Always use polite words, adding wit, so you can respond properly to everyone.

7 All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, who is a beloved brother, and a faithful minister and fellowservant in the Lord:

*Tychicus will tell you about everything happening here because he is a dear brother, and a reliable helper in serving the Lord.

8 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort your hearts;

*The person I sent to you is here to find out about your situation and encourage your hearts.

9 With Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They shall make known unto you all things which are done here.

*With Onesimus, a loyal and dear friend, who is like you. They will tell you everything that happened here.

10 Aristarchus my fellowprisoner saluteth you, and Marcus, sister’s son to Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive him;)

*Aristarchus, my fellow prisoner, sends his greetings. Also, Marcus, who is related to Barnabas' sister, has some instructions for you. If he visits, please welcome him.

11 And Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the circumcision. These only are my fellowworkers unto the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me.

*And Jesus, also called Justus, from the Jewish tradition. These are the only ones who work with me in God's kingdom and give me comfort.

12 Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

*Epaphras, a fellow believer and servant of Christ, sends his greetings to you. He constantly prays for you with great effort, hoping that you can fully and completely follow God's plans.

13 For I bear him record, that he hath a great zeal for you, and them that are in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis.

*I am witness that he has a strong passion for you and the people in Laodicea and Hierapolis.

14 Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you.

*Luke, the dear doctor, and Demas say hello to you.

15 Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house.

*Greet the brothers in Laodicea, Nymphas, and the church in his home.

16 And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea.

*When they read this letter in your group, have them also read it in the Laodicean church, and you should read the letter from Laodicea too.

17 And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.

*Tell Archippus to carefully watch over the work given by the Lord and make sure he does it well.

18 The salutation by the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace be with you. Amen.

*Hello from me, Paul. I'm in chains. Grace to you.
