KJV: My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

Geneva: My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receiue the greater condemnation.

KJV: For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

Geneva: For in many things we sinne all. If any man sinne not in word, he is a perfect man, and able to bridle all the body.

KJV: Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

Geneva: Beholde, we put bittes into the horses mouthes, that they should obey vs, and we turne about all their bodie.

KJV: Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.

Geneva: Behold also the shippes, which though they be so great, and are driuen of fierce windes, yet are they turned about with a very small rudder, whither soeuer the gouernour listeth.

KJV: Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

Geneva: Euen so the tongue is a litle member, and boasteth of great things: beholde, howe great a thing a litle fire kindleth.

KJV: And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

Geneva: And the tongue is fire, yea, a worlde of wickednesse: so is the tongue set among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature, and it is set on fire of hell.

KJV: For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

Geneva: For the whole nature of beasts, & of birds, and of creeping things, and things of the sea is tamed, and hath bene tamed of the nature of man.

KJV: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

Geneva: But the tongue can no man tame. It is an vnruly euill, full of deadly poyson.

KJV: Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

Geneva: Therewith blesse we God euen the Father, and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

KJV: Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

Geneva: Out of one mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing: my brethren, these things ought not so to be.

KJV: Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

Geneva: Doeth a fountaine send forth at one place sweete water and bitter?

KJV: Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

Geneva: Can ye figge tree, my brethren, bring forth oliues, either a vine figges? so can no fountaine make both salt water and sweete.

KJV: Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

Geneva: Who is a wise man & endued with knowledge among you? let him shew by good conuersation his workes in meekenesse of wisdome.

KJV: But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

Geneva: But if ye haue bitter enuying and strife in your hearts, reioyce not, neither be liars against the trueth.

KJV: This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

Geneva: This wisedome descendeth not from aboue, but is earthly, sensuall, and deuilish.

KJV: For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

Geneva: For where enuying and strife is, there is sedition, and all maner of euill workes.

KJV: But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

Geneva: But the wisedome that is from aboue, is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easie to be intreated, full of mercie & good fruites, without iudging, and without hipocrisie.

KJV: And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

Geneva: And the fruite of righteousnesse is sowen in peace, of them that make peace.
