Chapter 18

KJV: Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance, and joined affinity with Ahab.

Geneva: And Iehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance, but he was ioyned in affinitie with Ahab.

KJV: And after certain years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. And Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people that he had with him, and persuaded him to go up with him to Ramothgilead.

Geneva: And after certaine yeeres he went downe to Ahab to Samaria: and Ahab slew sheepe and oxen for him in great nomber, and for the people that he had with him, and entised him to goe vp vnto Ramoth Gilead.

KJV: And Ahab king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat king of Judah, Wilt thou go with me to Ramothgilead? And he answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people; and we will be with thee in the war.

Geneva: And Ahab King of Israel saide vnto Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, Wilt thou goe with mee to Ramoth Gilead? And hee answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people, and wee will ioyne with thee in the warre.

KJV: And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day.

Geneva: And Iehoshaphat sayde vnto the King of Israel, Aske counsel, I pray thee, at the worde of the Lord this day.

KJV: Therefore the king of Israel gathered together of prophets four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for God will deliver it into the king’s hand.

Geneva: Therefore the King of Israel gathered of Prophets foure hundreth men, and sayde vnto them, Shall we goe to Ramoth Gilead to battel, or shall I cease? And they sayd, Go vp: for God shall deliuer it into the Kings hand.

KJV: But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might enquire of him?

Geneva: But Iehoshaphat sayde, Is there heere neuer a Prophet more of the Lorde that wee might inquire of him?

KJV: And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, by whom we may enquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he never prophesied good unto me, but always evil: the same is Micaiah the son of Imla. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

Geneva: And the King of Israel sayd vnto Iehoshaphat, There is yet one man, by whome wee may aske counsell of the Lorde, but I hate him: for he doeth not prophesie good vnto me, but alway euil: it is Michaiah the sonne of Imla. Then Iehoshaphat said, Let not the King say so.

KJV: And the king of Israel called for one of his officers, and said, Fetch quickly Micaiah the son of Imla.

Geneva: And the King of Israel called an eunuche, & said, Call quickly Michaiah the sonne of Imla.

KJV: And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah sat either of them on his throne, clothed in their robes, and they sat in a void place at the entering in of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.

Geneva: And the King of Israel, and Iehoshaphat King of Iudah sate either of them on his throne clothed in their apparel: they sate euen in the threshing floore at the entring in of the gate of Samaria: and all the Prophets prophesied before them.

KJV: And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah had made him horns of iron, and said, Thus saith the LORD, With these thou shalt push Syria until they be consumed.

Geneva: And Zidkiah ye sonne of Chenaanah made him hornes of yron, and sayde, Thus sayth the Lorde, With these shalt thou push the Aramites vntill thou hast consumed them.

KJV: And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramothgilead, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

Geneva: And all the Prophets prophesied so, saying, Go vp to Ramoth Gilead, & prosper: for the Lord shall deliuer it into the hand of the King.

KJV: And the messenger that went to call Micaiah spake to him, saying, Behold, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one assent; let thy word therefore, I pray thee, be like one of theirs, and speak thou good.

Geneva: And the messenger that went to call Michaiah, spake to him, saying, Beholde, the wordes of the Prophets declare good to the King with one accord: let thy word therefore, I pray thee, be like one of theirs, and speake thou good.

KJV: And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, even what my God saith, that will I speak.

Geneva: And Michaiah saide, As the Lorde liueth, whatsoeuer my God saith, that will I speake.

KJV: And when he was come to the king, the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And he said, Go ye up, and prosper, and they shall be delivered into your hand.

Geneva: So he came to the King, and the King said vnto him, Michaiah, shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battel, or shall I leaue off? And he said, Goe yee vp, and prosper, and they shalbe deliuered into your hand.

KJV: And the king said to him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou say nothing but the truth to me in the name of the LORD?

Geneva: And the King sayd to him, Howe oft shall I charge thee, that thou tell mee nothing but the trueth in the Name of the Lord?

KJV: Then he said, I did see all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master; let them return therefore every man to his house in peace.

Geneva: Then he said, I saw al Israel scattered in the mountaines, as sheepe that haue no shepheard: & the Lord sayd, These haue no Master: let them returne euery man to his house in peace.

KJV: And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would not prophesy good unto me, but evil?

Geneva: And the King of Israel sayde to Iehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee, that he would not prophesie good vnto me, but euill?

KJV: Again he said, Therefore hear the word of the LORD; I saw the LORD sitting upon his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left.

Geneva: Againe hee saide, Therefore heare ye the worde of the Lord: I sawe the Lorde sit vpon his throne, and all the hoste of heauen standing at his right hand, and at his left.

KJV: And the LORD said, Who shall entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one spake saying after this manner, and another saying after that manner.

Geneva: And the Lorde sayd, Who shall perswade Ahab King of Israel, that he may go vp, and fall at Ramoth Gilead? And one spake and said thus, and another said that.

KJV: Then there came out a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will entice him. And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith?

Geneva: Then there came forth a spirit and stoode before the Lord, and said, I will perswade him; the Lord said vnto him, Wherein?

KJV: And he said, I will go out, and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And the Lord said, Thou shalt entice him, and thou shalt also prevail: go out, and do even so.

Geneva: And he saide, I will goe out, and bee a false spirit in the mouth of all his Prophets; hee said, Thou shalt perswade, and shalt also preuaile: goe forth and do so.

KJV: Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil against thee.

Geneva: Now therefore behold, the Lord hath put a false spirit in the mouth of these thy Prophets, and the Lord hath determined euill against thee.

KJV: Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and smote Micaiah upon the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?

Geneva: Then Zidkiah the sonne of Chenaanah came neere, & smote Michaiah vpon the cheeke, and sayde, By what way went the Spirit of the Lorde from me, to speake with thee?

KJV: And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see on that day when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.

Geneva: And Michaiah saide, Behold, thou shalt see that day when thou shalt goe from chamber to chamber to hide thee.

KJV: Then the king of Israel said, Take ye Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son;

Geneva: And the King of Israel sayde, Take ye Michaiah, and cary him to Amon the gouernour of the citie, and to Ioash the Kings sonne,

KJV: And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I return in peace.

Geneva: And say, Thus saith the King, Put this man in the prison house, and feede him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction vntil I returne in peace.

KJV: And Micaiah said, If thou certainly return in peace, then hath not the LORD spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, all ye people.

Geneva: And Michaiah said, If thou returne in peace, the Lord hath not spoken by me; he saide, Heare, all ye people.

KJV: So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramothgilead.

Geneva: So the King of Israel and Iehoshaphat the King of Iudah went vp to Ramoth Gilead.

KJV: And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and will go to the battle; but put thou on thy robes. So the king of Israel disguised himself; and they went to the battle.

Geneva: And the King of Israel said vnto Iehoshaphat, I will change my selfe, and enter into the battel: but put thou on thine apparel. So the King of Israel changed himselfe, and they went into the battel.

KJV: Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of the chariots that were with him, saying, Fight ye not with small or great, save only with the king of Israel.

Geneva: And the King of Aram had commaunded the captaines of the charets that were with him, saying, Fight you not with small, nor great, but against the King of Israel onely.

KJV: And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, It is the king of Israel. Therefore they compassed about him to fight: but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him; and God moved them to depart from him.

Geneva: And when the captaines of the charets saw Iehoshaphat, they sayde, It is the King of Israel: and they compassed about him to fight. But Iehoshaphat cryed, and the Lorde helped him & moued them to depart from him.

KJV: For it came to pass, that, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back again from pursuing him.

Geneva: For when the captaines of the charets saw that hee was not the King of Israel, they turned backe from him.

KJV: And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: therefore he said to his chariot man, Turn thine hand, that thou mayest carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.

Geneva: Then a certaine man drewe a bowe mightily, and smote the King of Israel betweene the ioyntes of his brigandine: Therefore he saide to his charetman, Turne thine hand, and carie mee out of the host: for I am hurt.

KJV: And the battle increased that day: howbeit the king of Israel stayed himself up in his chariot against the Syrians until the even: and about the time of the sun going down he died.

Geneva: And the battel increased that day: and the King of Israel stood still in his charet against the Aramites vntil euen, and dyed at the time of the sunne going downe.
