1 Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in mount Moriah, where the Lord appeared unto David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.

*Then Solomon started building God's house in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah. This is the spot where God talked to David, his dad. David had prepared this area on Ornan the Jebusite's grain-grinding floor.

2 And he began to build in the second day of the second month, in the fourth year of his reign.

*He started constructing on the second day of the second month during his fourth year as king.

3 Now these are the things wherein Solomon was instructed for the building of the house of God. The length by cubits after the first measure was threescore cubits, and the breadth twenty cubits.

*Now, these are the instructions given to Solomon for building God's house. The length, using the first measurement, was sixty cubits, and the width was twenty cubits.

4 And the porch that was in the front of the house, the length of it was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the height was an hundred and twenty: and he overlaid it within with pure gold.

*The front porch of the house was as long as it was wide, measuring 20 cubits, and its height was 120 units; he covered the inside with pure gold.

5 And the greater house he cieled with fir tree, which he overlaid with fine gold, and set thereon palm trees and chains.

*He covered the bigger house with wooden planks from fir trees, then added shiny gold all over it. He also put palm trees and chains on it.

6 And he garnished the house with precious stones for beauty: and the gold was gold of Parvaim.

*He decorated the house with beautiful gemstones. The gold used was from a special place called Parvaim.

7 He overlaid also the house, the beams, the posts, and the walls thereof, and the doors thereof, with gold; and graved cherubims on the walls.

*He covered everything inside, like beams, posts, walls, and doors, with gold. He also carved angels called cherubs into the walls.

8 And he made the most holy house, the length whereof was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits: and he overlaid it with fine gold, amounting to six hundred talents.

*He built a very special room. It was 20 cubits long and 20 cubits wide. He covered it with shiny gold, which weighed about 600 talents.

9 And the weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold. And he overlaid the upper chambers with gold.

*The nails weighed 50 gold coins, and he covered the top rooms with gold.

10 And in the most holy house he made two cherubims of image work, and overlaid them with gold.

*In the very sacred room, he created two cherubim figures out of artwork and covered them with gold.

11 And the wings of the cherubims were twenty cubits long: one wing of the one cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was likewise five cubits, reaching to the wing of the other cherub.

*The cherubim's wings were 20 feet long. One wing of each cherub was 5 feet, stretching to the house wall, while the other wing was also 5 feet, reaching to the other cherub's wing.

12 And one wing of the other cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was five cubits also, joining to the wing of the other cherub.

*One side of the other cherub's wing was 5 feet long, stretching to the house wall. The other side was also 5 feet long, connecting to the other cherub's wing.

13 The wings of these cherubims spread themselves forth twenty cubits: and they stood on their feet, and their faces were inward.

*The angels' wings stretched out 20 units of length, they stood on their feet, and their faces faced inward.

14 And he made the vail of blue, and purple, and crimson, and fine linen, and wrought cherubims thereon.

*He created the curtain from blue, purple, red, and white fabric, and added beautiful angel-like creatures on it.

15 Also he made before the house two pillars of thirty and five cubits high, and the chapiter that was on the top of each of them was five cubits.

*He also created two tall columns for the front of the house. Each column was 30 and a half cubits tall, and the top decoration on each was 5 cubits high.

16 And he made chains, as in the oracle, and put them on the heads of the pillars; and made an hundred pomegranates, and put them on the chains.

*He created chains like those in a prophecy and placed them on the top of the columns. He also made one hundred pomegranates and attached them to the chains.

17 And he reared up the pillars before the temple, one on the right hand, and the other on the left; and called the name of that on the right hand Jachin, and the name of that on the left Boaz.

*He set up two pillars in front of the temple, one on the right side and one on the left. He named the one on the right Jachin, and the one on the left Boaz.
