Advises Titus on organizing the church in Crete and living out sound doctrine.

Chapter 3

1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,

*Remind them to follow authority figures and laws, to be prepared for doing good things.

2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.

*Don't say bad things about anyone, avoid fights, be kind and polite to everyone.

3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

*We used to be silly, not listening, easily tricked, doing many wrong things for our desires and fun, being mean and jealous, not liking each other.

4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,

*But later, the goodness and affection of our saving God for people showed up.

5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

*We are saved not because of our good deeds, but through God's mercy. He saves us through the process of regeneration (washing) and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

*Which he generously poured upon us through Jesus Christ, our savior.

7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

*Because God is kind and forgives us, we can become co-owners, hoping for a life that lasts forever.

8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

*This is a reliable message. I want you to always say this: those who believe in God should be careful to keep doing good things. These actions are good and helpful for people.

9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

*Avoid pointless debates, family trees, arguments, and legal disputes because they don't help and are just a waste of time.

10 A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;

*"If someone keeps going against what's right, even after being warned twice, don't listen to them."

11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.

*Understanding that someone who acts like that is led astray and does wrong, they are judged by themselves.

12 When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter.

*When Artemas or Tychicus comes to you, quickly go to Nicopolis where I plan to spend winter.

13 Bring Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them.

*Send Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their trip carefully, making sure they have everything they need.

14 And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.

*We should also learn to do good things that are useful, so we don't waste our efforts.

15 All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen.

*I greet those who are with me. Say hello to those who love and trust us. May grace be with everyone. Yes, indeed.
