Chapter 10

1 Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

*Dear friends, I really want and pray to God for the people of Israel, hoping they can be safe.

2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

*I remember that they have a strong desire for God, but it's not based on full understanding.

3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

*Because they didn't know God's fairness, and tried to create their own, they didn't obey God's fairness.

4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

*For Christ ends the need for rules to be righteous, for everyone who believes.

5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.

*Moses explains the righteousness from the law, saying that a person who does these actions will live following them.

6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)

*But true faith's righteousness says this: Don't think in your heart, Who will go up to heaven? (This means, who will bring Christ down from above?)

7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

*Who will go down to the deep place (to raise Christ from being dead)?

8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

*But what does it say? The message is close to you, right in your mouth and your heart. It's the message of belief that we share.

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

*If you say with your mouth that you believe in Jesus as Lord, and truly think in your heart that God brought him back to life, then you will be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

*For when people believe in their hearts for goodness, and say it with their mouths, they get saved.

11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

*The Bible says, "If you believe in Him, you won't be embarrassed."

12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

*There's no difference between Jews and non-Jews, because the same Lord helps everyone who calls on Him. He's generous to all.

13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

*If you call on the Lord, you will be saved.

14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

*So, how can they call out to him if they don't believe in him? And how can they believe if they haven't heard about him? And how can they hear unless someone tells them?

15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

*How can they share the good news unless they are sent? As it says, "How lovely are the feet of those who tell about peace and bring happy news of good things!"

16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

*But not everyone follows the good news. Isaiah says, "Lord, who has trusted our message?"

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

*So, faith comes from listening, and listening comes from God's words.

18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

*But I say, haven't they heard? Yes indeed, their voice has gone throughout the entire earth, and their words to the very edges of the world.

19 But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.

*But I say, didn't Israel understand? First, Moses says, I will make you jealous using people who aren't important, and through a silly nation, I will upset you.

20 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.

*But Isaiah is very brave and says, "I was discovered by those who didn't look for me. I was revealed to those who didn't search for me."

21 But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

*But to Israel, he says, "All day I've reached out to a people who won't obey and argue back."
