Philippians

A letter of joy and encouragement, emphasizing humility and unity through Christ.

Chapter 4

1 Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.

*So, my dear friends, who I love and miss, and bring me happiness and honor, stand strong in the Lord, my precious friends.

2 I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord.

*I ask Euodia and Syntyche to agree and think similarly in the name of the Lord.

3 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.

*I kindly ask you, dear friend, to help the women who worked together with me in spreading the good news, along with Clement and other partners, whose names are recorded in the book of life.

4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.

*Be happy with God always: and once more, I tell you, be happy.

5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

*Show that you're balanced to everyone. God is very close by.

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

*Don't worry about anything, but in everything, pray and express gratitude while asking God for what you need.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

*And God's peace, too great to understand, will protect your heart and mind through Jesus Christ.

8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

*In the end, friends, focus on things that are true, honest, fair, pure, lovely, and have a good reputation. If there is any goodness or praise, think about these things.

9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

*Do those things you've learned and received from me, and you will have God's peace with you.

10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.

*I was very happy because the people who care about me are doing so more now. They tried before but didn't have the chance to show it as much.

11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

*I'm not talking about needing anything. I've learned to be happy no matter what situation I'm in.

12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

*I understand how to be poor and how to have plenty. In every situation, I'm taught to experience fullness and hunger, to have abundance and to face needs.

13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

*I can do everything with Christ's help, who gives me strength.

14 Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction.

*Even so, good job for reaching out to my suffering.

15 Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.

*Philippians, you should know that at the start of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church helped me with money stuff except for you.

16 For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.

*You sent help to me in Thessalonica when I needed it more than once.

17 Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.

*I don't want a present, but I want lots of good results for you.

18 But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.

*But I already have everything and am abundant. I'm filled up because Epaphroditus brought me gifts from you, which are like a pleasant scent, a pleasing sacrifice to God.

19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

*But my God will give you everything you need, based on his great wealth and honor, through Jesus Christ.

20 Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

*Now to God, our Father, goes all the praise forever and ever. Yes, that's right!

21 Salute every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren which are with me greet you.

*Greet all the believers in Jesus. My fellow Christians here send you their regards.

22 All the saints salute you, chiefly they that are of Caesar’s household.

*All the holy people greet you, especially those from Caesar's family.

23 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

*May the kindness of our Lord Jesus bless you all. Amen.
