Matthew 22

And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,

And Jesus replied once more to them using stories, and said,

The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,

The kingdom of heaven is like a king who arranged a wedding for his son.

And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.

He sent his helpers to invite those who were supposed to attend the wedding, but they refused to come.

Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.

Again, he sent more helpers with this message: The food is ready; my cows and fattened animals are cooked, everything is set up. So come join the wedding celebration.

But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:

But they didn't take it seriously, and went their separate ways, one to his farm and another to his business.

And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.

So, only a few people left with their leader's helpers, treated them badly, and killed them.

But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

But when the king learned about it, he got angry. He then sent his armies to defeat the killers, destroying them and burning down their city.

Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.

Then he tells his helpers, "The wedding is prepared, but those who were invited weren't good enough.

Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.

Go out and invite people from all over to the wedding.

So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.

The helpers went to the streets, bringing everyone they found, both good and not so good, and the wedding had plenty of guests.

And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:

When the king entered to check on the guests, he noticed a man who wasn't wearing a wedding outfit.

And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.

He asks, "How did you get here without a wedding outfit?" The person has no answer.

Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Then the king told the helpers, "Tie up his hands and feet, then take him far away and put him in a very dark place. There he will cry and grind his teeth."

For many are called, but few are chosen.

Many get invited, but not many get picked.

Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.

Then, the Pharisees left to discuss how they could trick Jesus with what he said.

And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.

They sent their disciples with the Herodians to Jesus, saying, "Master, we know you are honest and teach God's way truly. You don't care about anyone's importance because you don't focus on people's status.

Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?

So, tell us your opinion. Is it okay to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?

But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?

But Jesus knew they were bad, and asked, Why are you testing me, you pretenders?

Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.

Show me the payment money. And they brought him a single coin.

And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?

He asks them, "Whose is this picture and writing?"

They say unto him, Caesar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.

They ask him, "It's Caesar's." He tells them, "So give to Caesar what belongs to him, and give to God what belongs to God."

When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.

After hearing the words, they were amazed, then they departed and continued on their journey.

The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,

On the same day, the Sadducees, who believe there's no rising from the dead, came to him and questioned him.

Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

Moses asked, "If a man dies without kids, his brother should marry his wife and have children for him."

Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:

Now we had seven brothers. The first one got married, but then he died without any children, so his wife was given to his brother.

Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.

Similarly, the second one, and the third, up to the seventh.

And last of all the woman died also.

Lastly, the woman passed away too.

Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.

So, in the resurrection, who will she be married to from the seven? Because they all had her.

Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

Jesus replied, "You're wrong. You don't understand the scripts or God's power."

For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

In the resurrection, people don't marry or get married; instead, they are like God's angels in heaven.

But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,

But about bringing back those who have died, haven't you read what God told you?

I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

I'm the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God isn't the God of the deceased but of those who are alive.

And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.

When many people heard this, they were amazed by what he taught.

But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.

But after the Pharisees heard he silenced the Sadducees, they all came together.

Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,

Then a lawyer from the group asked him a tricky question to test him.

Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

Teacher, what is the most important rule in the laws?

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Jesus told him, "Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind."

This is the first and great commandment.

This is the main and important rule.

And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

And the second one is similar, you must love your neighbor just as much as you love yourself.

On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

These two rules sum up everything in the laws and prophecies.

While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

As the Pharisees met, Jesus questioned them.

Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David.

"So Jesus asked them, 'What do you think about Christ? Who does he seem to be?' They replied, 'He's the son of David.'"

He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,

He asks them, "So how does David, in his spirit, address him as Lord, by saying,"

The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?

The Lord told me, "Sit by my side until I defeat your enemies and make them your footrest."

If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?

If David calls someone Lord, how can that person be his son?

And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

Nobody could reply to him, and nobody dared to ask him any more questions after that day.
