Chapter 13

1 And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here!

*As he left the temple, a disciple said to him, "Teacher, look at these amazing stones and buildings!"

2 And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

*Jesus replied, "Do you see these big buildings? Not one stone will be left on top of another; they will all be knocked down."

3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,

*While sitting on the Mount of Olives facing the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked Jesus a private question.

4 Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?

*Ask us, when will these events happen? What will show that everything will be completed?

5 And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you:

*And Jesus replied, "Be careful not to let anyone trick you."

6 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

*Many people will claim to be Christ, deceiving others.

7 And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet.

*When you hear about wars or talk of wars, don't worry. These things have to happen, but it's not the end yet.

8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.

*Countries will fight other countries, and kingdoms will clash. Earthquakes, famines, and problems will happen in many places. These are the start of sad times.

9 But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.

*But be careful! They will hand you over to councils, and you'll be beaten in synagogues. You'll also be brought before rulers and kings because of me, as a witness against them.

10 And the gospel must first be published among all nations.

*The good news needs to be shared with everyone around the world before anything else.

11 But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.

*But when they make you speak, don't plan what to say ahead of time. Just let the words come to you in the moment, because it's the Holy Spirit speaking through you, not you yourself.

12 Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death.

*Now, one brother will betray another to die, and a dad will turn on his son. Kids will also rebel against their parents, killing them.

13 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

*People will hate you for believing in me, but if you keep going despite this, you will be saved.

14 But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:

*But when you see a terrible event mentioned by the prophet Daniel happening in the wrong place, (understand this if you're reading), then people in Judea should run to the mountains.

15 And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house:

*If someone is on the roof, they shouldn't go inside the house or enter it, and they shouldn't take anything from inside the house.

16 And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment.

*And if someone's in the field, they shouldn't go back to get their clothes.

17 But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!

*But oh no for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding during those times!

18 And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter.

*And ask that you don't have to flee during cold weather.

19 For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.

*In those days, there will be great suffering that has never happened before since God created everything. It won't happen again either.

20 And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect’s sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.

*If the Lord hadn't shortened those days, no living being would be saved. But He did it to help His chosen people.

21 And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:

*If someone says they see Christ here or there, don't believe them.

22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.

*False leaders and fake prophets will appear with miracles and wonders to try to deceive God's chosen people, if they can.

23 But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.

*But be careful, for I have warned you about everything.

24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,

*But then, after that difficult time, the sun will lose its brightness, and the moon won't shine its light.

25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.

*The stars from the sky will crash down, and the mighty forces in the sky will tremble.

26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

*Then, they will see the Son of Man returning in the sky with incredible strength and splendor.

27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.

*Then, he will send angels to collect his chosen ones from all directions, from the farthest corners of Earth to the farthest corners of Heaven.

28 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:

*Now understand a story about a fig tree; when its branch is still young and has new leaves, you know warm weather is coming soon.

29 So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.

*So, just like that, when you see these events happen, understand that it's very close, almost happening right at your doorstep.

30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.

*I truly tell you, this group of people won't die until everything here happens.

31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

*Heaven and Earth will disappear, but my words won't disappear.

32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

*Nobody o knows when that day and hour will happen, not even angels or Jesus, but only God the Father does.

33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

*Be careful, stay alert, and pray constantly because you don't know when it will happen.

34 For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.

*The Son of man is like a person going on a long trip, who left home and entrusted tasks to his helpers, giving each one their job, and told the doorkeeper to stay alert.

35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:

*Stay alert all the time because you don't know when the homeowner will return, whether it's in the evening, at midnight, when the rooster crows, or in the morning.

36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.

*So that when he arrives unexpectedly, he doesn't find you asleep.

37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

*And what I tell you, I tell everyone: Stay alert.
