1 Then said the LORD unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine.

*Then God told me, Go love a woman who is loved by her friend, even though she is unfaithful. Do this because I, the Lord, love the people of Israel, who often turn to other gods and enjoy drinking from wine jugs.

2 So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley:

*So I paid her with 15 silver coins, and a large container of barley, and a half-large container of barley.

3 And I said unto her, Thou shalt abide for me many days; thou shalt not play the harlot, and thou shalt not be for another man: so will I also be for thee.

*I told her, "I want to be with you for a long time. Don't cheat on me or belong to anyone else, and I won't do that either."

4 For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim:

*For a long time, the children of Israel will not have a king, a leader, a sacrifice, an image, an ephod, or teraphim.

5 Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days.

*Later, the Israelites will come back, look for God and King David, and be afraid of God's kindness in the future times.
