Chapter 11

1 Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.

*Throw your bread into the water: you'll find it again after a long time.

2 Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.

*Give some to seven and some to eight because you don't know what bad things will happen on Earth.

3 If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.

*If clouds have lots of rain, they let it out on the ground. And if a tree falls to the south or north, it will be in that spot.

4 He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.

*If you watch the wind, you won't plant seeds. And if you look at the clouds, you won't harvest anything.

5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.

*You don't know how the spirit works or how babies grow in their mother's belly. Similarly, you don't understand God's actions, as He creates everything.

6 In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.

*In the morning plant your seeds, and in the evening don't stop; you don't know if one will do well or both will be good.

7 Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:

*Indeed, sunlight is lovely, and it's enjoyable to see the sun with our eyes.

8 But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.

*But if someone lives a long life and enjoys it all, they should still remember the difficult times because there will be many. Everything that happens is just a temporary thing.

9 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.

*Be happy, young person, while you're young! Let your heart make you happy during your youthful days, follow what you desire and enjoy what you see. But remember, God will judge all these actions eventually.

10 Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.

*So, stop being sad and get rid of bad habits, because being young is just a waste of time.
