Chapter 16

1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

*After the Sabbath day ended, Mary Magdalene, Mary (James's mom), and Salome bought some nice smelling spices to go and put on Jesus' body.

2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.

*Early on Sunday morning, as the sun was rising, they went to the tomb.

3 And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?

*They wondered, "Who will remove the stone blocking the tomb's entrance?"

4 And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.

*When they looked, they found the big stone moved away.

5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.

*Going into the tomb, they found a young man sitting on the right side dressed in a long white robe. They were very scared.

6 And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.

*He tells them not to be afraid. They are looking for Jesus from Nazareth, who was killed on a cross. But he has risen and is not here. Look, this is where they put him before.

7 But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.

*"But go, inform his followers and Peter, he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will find him, just like he told you."

8 And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid.

*They left the tomb rapidly, terrified and astonished. They didn't tell anyone anything because they were scared.

9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

*On the first day of the week, after Jesus rose, he showed himself to Mary Magdalene first, who he had removed seven demons from before.

10 And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept.

*She went to those with him and told them, while they mourned and cried.

11 And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.

*When they heard he was alive and seen by her, they still didn't believe.

12 After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.

*Then, he showed up to two of them in a different shape while they were walking and went into the countryside.

13 And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.

*So, they shared the news with the rest of the people, but they didn't believe them.

14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.

*Later, he showed up to the eleven while they were eating and scolded them for their lack of faith and stubbornness. They didn't believe those who said they saw him alive after he rose from the dead.

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

*He told them, "Go to all parts of the world and tell everyone about the good news."

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

*Believing and being baptized saves you, but not believing leads to condemnation.

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

*Believers will experience these signs: driving out demons using my name, and speaking in unknown languages.

18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

*They will handle snakes and if they drink something dangerous, it won't harm them. They can also place their hands on sick people, and the sick people will get better.

19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

*After Jesus talked to them, he went back to heaven and sat next to God.

20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

*They went and shared the message everywhere. The Lord helped them and proved the message with signs. Amen.
