Chapter 4

1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

*"See, a day is coming when it will be like a hot oven; on that day, proud people and those who do wrong will be destroyed like dry straw. The Lord, who owns everything in heaven and earth, says this day will completely destroy them, leaving nothing behind."

2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

*But for those who respect my name, the Sun of righteousness will rise with healing powers; and you will go out and grow like young cattle in a pen.

3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.

*You will crush the wicked people; because they will become like ashes beneath your feet on the day I do this, says the Lord of heaven's armies.

4 Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.

*Remember the laws given to Moses in Horeb by me, for all of Israel, including the rules and decisions.

5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:

*Look, I will send Elijah the prophet before the arrival of the big and scary day when the LORD comes.

6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

*He will make fathers care about their children, and children care about their fathers, so that I don't have to punish the world with a curse.
