Ezra 2

Now these are the children of the province that went up out of the captivity, of those which had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away unto Babylon, and came again unto Jerusalem and Judah, every one unto his city;

Now, these are the people from the area who returned after being taken captive by Nebuchadnezzar, the King of Babylon, and sent to Babylon. They later went back to Jerusalem and Judah, returning to their individual cities.

Which came with Zerubbabel: Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mizpar, Bigvai, Rehum, Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel:

With Zerubbabel came people like Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mizpar, Bigvai, Rehum, and Baanah. There were many Israelites in all.

The children of Parosh, two thousand an hundred seventy and two.

The children of Parosh numbered 2,172.

The children of Shephatiah, three hundred seventy and two.

Shephatiah's children had 372 of them.

The children of Arah, seven hundred seventy and five.

In Arah, there were 775 children.

The children of Pahathmoab, of the children of Jeshua and Joab, two thousand eight hundred and twelve.

These people came from Telmelah, Telharsa, Cherub, Addan, and Immer. However, they couldn't prove they were part of Israel or show their family lineage.

The children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda, six hundred fifty and two.

The children of Delaiah, Tobiah, and Nekoda had a total of 652.

And of the children of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Koz, the children of Barzillai; which took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called after their name:

The verse says: Priest's children - Habaiah's kids, Koz's kids, Barzillai's kids. One of them married a woman from Barzillai's family (from the area of Gilead) and was given their name.

These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

Some people looked for their family records with others who had similar ancestry, but they couldn't find theirs. So, because they were considered unclean, they were removed from being priests.

And the Tirshatha said unto them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a priest with Urim and with Thummim.

The leader told them not to eat the special food until a priest appeared with the Urim and Thummim.

The whole congregation together was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore,

The entire group had a total of 42,300 people.

Beside their servants and their maids, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and there were among them two hundred singing men and singing women.

Next to their workers and their helpers, who totaled 7,333, there were 200 people who sang, both men and women.

Their horses were seven hundred thirty and six; their mules, two hundred forty and five;

They had 736 horses and 245 mules.

Their camels, four hundred thirty and five; their asses, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.

They had 435 camels and 6,720 donkeys.

And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the LORD which is at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in his place:

Some important leaders, when they visited the LORD's house in Jerusalem, willingly gave money to help build and establish God's home.

They gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work threescore and one thousand drams of gold, and five thousand pound of silver, and one hundred priests’ garments.

They donated based on what they could to the project's fund, with 61,000 units of gold, 5,000 pounds of silver, and 100 priest outfits.

So the priests, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.

So, the priests, Levites, people, singers, gatekeepers, and Nethinims lived in their towns, and everyone else in Israel did too.
