Moses gives speeches about laws and the importance of following God before the Israelites enter the Promised Land.

Chapter 9

KJV - Deuteronomy 9:25

Thus I fell down before the LORD forty days and forty nights, as I fell down at the first; because the LORD had said he would destroy you.

So, I bowed before God for 40 days and 40 nights again, just like before, because He said He'd destroy you.
