Moses gives speeches about laws and the importance of following God before the Israelites enter the Promised Land.

Chapter 2

KJV - Deuteronomy 2:14

And the space in which we came from Kadeshbarnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as the LORD sware unto them.

The time it took us to travel from Kadeshbarnea to the brook Zered was 38 years. During this journey, all the warriors from the original group died, just like the LORD had promised.
